Knowing how much planning is involved in a wedding, you’d expect the special day to go on without a hitch. Thing is though, a lot of times, things take an unexpected turn, ushering in unforeseen mishaps from wardrobe malfunctions to cake catastrophes. For a good laugh, let’s go through some of the funniest stories we heard so far from across the region.

    The Pregnancy Conundrum

It was a perfect wedding, everything was going really well without a hitch. That is until it was time for the buffet. Right before we everyone headed off to the buffet, we all heard a loud scream coming from the back room. Turns out, it was the bride’s sister who was 7-months pregnant and was going into labor. Chaos ensued, with many of the guests ululating with joy while others panicking and scurrying around the room. Let’s just say, she made it to the hospital and gave birth to a beautiful baby boy.

Throughout my wedding day, I felt extremely uncomfortable because there was this one guest who I thought was winking at me. Every time I’d look at them, they would be straight-out winking at me. I didn’t want to cause any trouble but it was my wedding day and I wanted to enjoy it so I told my husband about the “winking” man. Seconds later, I found my husband at the other side of the hall, punching the life out of the man only to later discover that this whole time, he had a swollen eye from a severe allergic reaction.

For my friend’s wedding, everyone was extremely busy, trying to get everything prepared and ready for the big day. Funnily enough, in all that preparation, everyone forgot the most important guest of honor, the bride herself. She got left behind and ended up having to take an uber from Zamalek all the way to New Cairo. To make matters worse, the moment she arrived her mother reprimanded her and gave her a long lecture all because she was late.

    The Stubborn Cake

So get this, for our wedding, we went for a simple one-tiered cake to avoid the risk of any possible accidents. We hired one of the best cake decorators in town and stored the cake in a special refrigerator. We took all the stops but when the special day arrived and it was time to bring out the cake, things took a turn for the worst. As the server was walking towards us, he ended up slipping on a cord, the cake flew from very end of the room and somehow landed on my tux. So I guess a cake catastrophe was in order no matter what we did.

On my wedding day, I woke up with a scratchy throat so I took some pain killers and drank a hot cup of lemon and honey. I was adamant on making sure that nothing gets in the way of my special day. Let me tell you, I was wrong… From the moment the wedding began, I threw up right after I walked down the aisle with my dad. It didn’t stop there, I then passed out from exhaustion half way through the wedding. Fast forward to the night of the wedding and there I was laying in bed with my husband, bowl of soup on my lap as we watched my favorite episodes from “Nelly & Sherihan.”

All these stories may be marked by hilarious mishaps and unexpected events but that does not take away from the special quality of a typical wedding day. Let us know if you had any funny mishaps of your own during your wedding day.
