The World’s Greatest Show is coming to Dubai on the 20th of October, 2020 and will take place until the 10th of April, 2021, with 192 countries participating.

With around 25 million visitors expected to visit Dubai to attend the Expo, it is already positively impacting the Emirates economy. Furthermore, the international community looks to the UAE and the participating countries to provide sustainable solutions to the world’s most heated issues.

A series of celebrations across the United Arab Emirates marking the one-year countdown to the Expo 2020 will take place on Sunday, the 20th of October, and for this reason, we decided to remind you how big Dubai’s upcoming Expo will be and what it will offer.

Expo 2020 Dubai brings back sustainable architecture in the UAE

    Thinc Design.

The United Arab Emirates along with other GCC states have the highest energy consumption per capita in the world. The Emirati government has narrowed down the reason for this high energy demand to the wide use of air conditioners during the heated months of summer.

However, before these countries moved to modern architecture, and even before the invention of AC’s, the nomads of the Arabian desert used to build their homes in a way that keeps the temperature low.

As Dubai prepares for Expo 2020, the UAE’s national pavilion announcements show a revival of low-tech sustainability is underway.

Siemens announces it will use Dubai’s expo as a testing ground for smart cities

    Via Construction Week Online.

For the Expo 2020, Siemens, the largest industrial manufacturing company in Europe, has installed a number of high-tech, state-of-the-art smart building technologies, boosting efficiency, comfort, and safety.

The company will manage 132 buildings digitally connected together across a space of 4.38 square kilometers.

The data collected by Siemens during the Expo 2020 will be used in future smart cities projects, such as District 2020 in Dubai.

The countdown begins as Dubai vouches to reveal the first ropeless elevator

    Via The National

The world’s first-ever ropeless elevator, with the ability to move multiple carts at once, is coming to Dubai in the light of the Expo 2020. The pioneering invention will offer double the capacity of passengers of regular elevators.

In addition, this new and improved elevator can use 70 percent less power than its traditional counterpart, as it depends on magnetism instead of gravity.

The project was first revealed in 2017 and will expand beyond elevators as the managing company sets its sight at underground transportation systems.

Dubai’s metro is getting an upgrade to serve millions of visitors at Expo 2020 Dubai

    Via The National.

The Dubai Red Metro Line has expanded in a five-stage project across a 435-hectare area dedicated to the Expo 2020 events. This expansion is the first step towards Route 2020, a project that aims to showcase Dubai’s expansion and its promising future.

Once delivered, the Route 2020 project will be the first prominent rail expansion of the highly successful Dubai Metro Red Line and Green Line projects.

56 percent of contracts are assigned to small and medium-sized enterprises

    Via The National.

With almost a year to go until Dubai’s Expo 2020, around the region, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are growing. Organizers of the event realize this, and in support, they decided to dedicate 56 percent of contracts at the Expo to SMEs.

Other regulations were put in place to encourage small and medium-sized business owners, with the Emirates NB, the Expo 2020’s official banking partner, announcing that SMEs are to be provided with preferential loan rates, working capital support, and low minimum balance requirements.

Statistics predict that next year’s Expo will contribute almost USD 33 billion to Dubai’s economy

    Via Arabian Business.

This is the first time the worldwide-celebrated event comes to the Middle East, and so Dubai decided to either go big or go home, and going big is exactly what they did. From mind-blowing architecture to on the ground sustainable solutions, the Expo 2020 is set to exceed Shangahi’s 2010 Expo, one of the best to ever be organized.

The Expo 2020 sets to bolster Dubai’s reputation as the region’s main business hub. It is estimated that around USD 33 billion will be provided through investments to boost the Emirate’s local economy.

Singapore plans to build a green oasis in Dubai

    Via Expo 2020 Dubai.

Dubai is many things, but tropical is not one of them. Well, this is about to change as one Singaporian company comes to the Expo 2020 with one goal and that is to build an oasis in the Arabian desert.

WOHA, the designer of the Singapore pavilion, is working to convert the 1,550-meter site in Dubai’s Expo Sustainability District to a dense, multi-layered three-dimensional greenery.

New jobs are created for thousands at the Expo 2020 Dubai

    Via Construction Week Online.

The Expo 2020 is set to create around 275,000 job opportunities in the next six years all around the region. These will be in the sectors of aviation, construction, retail, and transportation.

    Via Gulf Business.

The USD 353 million worth of road projects includes a series of flyovers, ramps, and widened roads that are currently under construction.

According to Gulf News, while opening the fifth Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF) Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said ,“The UAE has committed teams and huge resources for constructing projects related to the hosting of this huge international event. The budget set for roads and transportation projects in the lead up to the Expo is Dh15 billion.”

    Via Allure.

The global phenomenon, Mariah Carey along with Emirati superstar Hussein Al Jasmi, will perform a live concert free of charge to all attendees in an effort to promote the upcoming Expo.

The concert will take place on the 20th of October, starting the one year count down to the Dubai Expo 2020.

The Expo 2020 Dubai national pavilion is taking shape

    Via Expo 2020 Dubai.

Images released ahead of the Expo 2020 showcased the masterpiece that is the UAE’s national pavilion. The design is truly spellbinding, and the pictures do speak for themselves.

“The pavilion will be one of the Expo’s greatest icons. The design will evoke the pioneering spirit and power of connections that transformed the UAE from a collection of small, desert communities, into a global connection point,” said UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai H.E. Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy. “The UAE pavilion will become an important cornerstone in our site and will have a legacy plan that will reflect our hopes and ambitions for the many years to come.”

At the time being, after 4 million working hours and drilling with the largest drillers in the region, the project is 65 percent done and is scheduled to be fully functional by September of 2020, a month before the Expo.

Emirati Performer Hussein Al Jasmi has been named an Expo 2020 Ambassador

    Via Egypt Today.

In the lead up to the World’s Greatest Show, Dubai decided to name Emirati artist/sensation Hussein Al Jasmi as one of the Expo 2020 official ambassadors. As the world sets its eyes towards Dubai, the leading Emirate showcases the best of what it has to offer in all fields, including art.
