In this edition of #WaraElCeema, we had an exclusive interview with the talented actor and writer, Ahmed Hosny. The young artist has been making mad waves lately on several fronts, be it acting, writing, or hosting a new web series called “Bebasata Kalam Cinema”. This web series has garnered over a million views in just the first episode, which featured Tarek El Erian and Amr Youssef.

Hosny has performed in several acting projects including “Youth”, a movie that participated in several international film festivals. He’s also a skilled copywriter who worked on marketing and PR campaigns for big movies like “Welad Rizk” and “Youmeddine”, in addition to being the writer on many successful ad campaigns that received high praise for their creativity. We got to discuss his new show, different projects he’s worked on, the movie he wrote, and more. Follow our hashtag #WaraElCeema for more exclusives from the film industry.

How did “Bebasata Kalam Cinema” come to life?

The idea came during the quarantine. We wanted to talk about cinema industry and what it went through during this period. It also came in line with our latest campaign ‘Helm El Shohra’ to inspire people to be persue their dreams when they see how their role models did it. Our first episode was with Director Tarek El Erian, and we had Amr Youssef as a guest (as they worked together before and are working now on a new movie). The next episode will be with actor Youssef Othman.

Talk to us about your role in “Youth”.

American/Egyptian Director Farida Zahran wanted to shoot this movie in Egypt, and I was nominated by Karim Kassem to go and audition for the role. I was hesitant at first because the role wanted a tall and muscular guy, but I decided to audition anyway, and I believed that I take the role (Cate Blanchett once played the role of a man), so I thought why not give it a try. I really enjoyed working on this specific project because the team came from different nationalities and backgrounds. And I was proud that it made it to international film festivals and won some awards.

How did you start working on movie marketing campaigns, and which is your favorite?

It started when I began working at Raw Entertainment, in the marketing team led by Siza Zayed. I was working as a copywriter, and we were focusing on taking movies marketing to the next level in Egypt, not just limited to trailers and ads. We worked on using and taking advantage of all aspects and reaching more audience.

My favorite campaign was of Welad Rizk, as we succeeded in making the characters of Welad Rizk a brand of their own, that was later used in different advertising campaigns for different brands. One other iconic movie that we’ve worked on is Yommedine, who later made it to several international film festivals, including Cannes.

Talk to us about working in “Weg-het Mazar”.

My friend Hady Bassiony nominated me to start writing for Weg-het Mazar when I was in college. He also pointed out that I don’t know yet that I’m talented in writing. I met Ola Roshdy, and she liked my work and we worked together on three seasons. This is one of my favorite projects and I feel so happy when I see it pop into my timeline or when I see one of the new episodes go viral. I’m grateful that Old trusted me and my work, and I believe that it opened a lot of opportunities for me later on.

    What are your future projects?

I’m working on several projects. And I wrote my first ever movie. It’s a dark comedy, and we’re now in the pre-production phase, with a big name. It talks about classism in our society, but in a dark comedy sense, that hopefully people will enjoy. The last thing we’re currently working on in Raw is a movie called El Tahweeda that will be a thriller/horror with proper production and now like anything we’ve seen from this genre before. It’s directed by Tarek El Erian and features Amr Youssef.

WE SAID THIS: Looking forward to seeing more from this talented artist!
