    It is no surprise that the Oscars is by far the most important night, not only for filmmakers but for everyone from fashion designers (Don’t get me started on the Christian Dior ripped dress at the SAG awards, what a shame!) to movie fans,  and technically everyone who is into arts.

    I decided to highlight the most important nominations for this year’s great event.

    The best actress for a leading role category included the youngest & the oldest nominations in terms of age, ever in this category. From “Beasts of the Southern wild” –Quvenzhané Wallis, 9 years old to “Amour’s”- Emmanuelle Riva, 85 years old.

    LINCOLN  (12 nominations)

    With twelve nominations, Lincoln is the number one nominated film this year. The movie is a biopic about the 16th U.S president based on “Team of Rivals: The political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Dors Kearns Goodwin. The movie already received 48 awards and 91 nominations (including 7 nominations at the golden globe awards)

    · Best picture: Steven Spielberg. Kathleen Kennedy.

    · Best Actor in a leading role: Daniel Day-Lewis.

    · Best Actor in a supporting Role: Tommy Lee Jones.

    · Best Actress in a supporting Role: Sally Field.

    · Best Cinematography: Janusz Kaminski.

    · Best Costume Design: Joanna Johnston.

    · Best Directing: Steven Spielberg.

    · Best Film Editing: Micheal Kahn.

    · Best Music (original Score): John Williams.

    · Best Production Design: Rick Carter & Jim Erikson.

    · Best Sound mixing: Andy Nelson, Gary Rydstorm & Ronald Judkins.

    · Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Tony Kushner.

     

    Life of Pi (11 nominations)

    Second on the list is Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” with eleven nominations. It is a 3D adventure drama film, based on a novel with the same name by Yann Martel’s. The film received 26 awards and 55 nominations so far (including 8 nominations at British Academy Film Award)

    · Best Picture: Ang Lee, Gil Netter, David Womark.

    · Best Cinematography: Claudio Miranda.

    · Best Directing: Ang Lee.

    · Best Film Editing: Tim Squyres.

    · Best Music (Original Score): Mychael Danna.

    · Best Music (Original Song): “Pi’s Lullaby”, Music by Mychael Danna; Lyric by Bmbay Jayashri.

    · Best Production Design: David Gropman (production design); Ann Pinnock (Set Decoration).

    · Best Sound Editing: Eugene Gearty, Philip Stockton.

    · Best Sound Mixing: Ron Bartlett, D. M. Hemphill, Drew Kunin.

    · Best Visual Effects: Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan de Boer and Donald R. Elliot.

    · Best writing (adapted Screenplay): David Magee.

     

    Both “Les Miserables” and “Silver linings Playbooks” came 3rd with (8 Nominations)

    Les Miserables

    The musical drama film is based on the 1862 well known French novel by Victor Hugo. The movie already received 35 awards & 75 nominations including (9 nominations at British Academy Film Award).

    Including:

    · Best actor in a leading Role: Hugh Jackman.

    · Best actress in a supporting role: Anne Hathaway.

    · Best Costume Design: Paco Delgado.

    Silver Linings Playbook

    It is a romantic comedy, which is based on people with mental issues. The film is based on a book with the same name by Mathew Quick. It received 41 awards & 57 nominations (including four golden globe nominations)

    Including:

    · Best Acting in a Leading Role: Bradley Cooper.

    · Best Actor in a Supporting role: Robert De Niro.

    · Best Actress in a leading Role: Jennifer Lawrence.
