The End of ‘Khot Al Saeed’: Police Eliminate Dangerous Criminal Gang in Assiut

In a high-stakes security operation, Egyptian police killed eight dangerous criminals in a violent shootout in Assiut’s Sahel Selim area. The gang, led by Mohamed Mahsoub Ibrahim Ahmed, infamously known as “Khot Al Saeed,” was involved in drug trafficking, illegal arms possession, extortion, and terrorizing residents.

The operation resulted in the injury of a police officer but successfully dismantled the notorious gang.

    Who Is Mohamed Mahsoub?

A Fugitive with 191 Years of Prison Sentences

Mahsoub was one of Egypt’s most wanted criminals. He faced 44 felony charges, including murder, armed robbery, drug trafficking, and arson.

Over the years, his convictions accumulated to a staggering 191 years in prison. His gang members also had long sentences, with one associate sentenced to 108 years for similar crimes.

Social Media Propaganda: Khot Al Saeed’s Attempt to Rewrite His Story

Despite his criminal history, Mahsoub actively used social media to craft a different image. He released 44 videos in which he framed himself as a victim of injustice rather than a dangerous fugitive.

In these videos, he spoke about his past crimes but attempted to justify them, portraying himself as a revolutionary figure rather than a gang leader.

His online presence aimed to win public sympathy and challenge the authorities’ narrative.

    The Police Raid in Assiut

Security forces, including Central Security Sector units, launched a raid targeting the gang’s fortified hideout in Al-Afadra village, Assiut.

The criminals responded with heavy gunfire, using RPGs, F1 grenades, and automatic rifles. They even detonated gas cylinders in an attempt to block police officers from entering. The confrontation lasted for three days.

Why Didn’t Mohamed Mahsoub’s Gang Escape Assiut?

The police held a tight grip, with authorities imposing a security cordon around the village. The power supply was cut off in three villages—Al-Afadra, Al-Tanagha, and Al-Gamaila—to prevent the criminals from coordinating their escape.

Weapons and Drugs Seized After Shootout

Following the shootout, police recovered a significant cache of weapons, including RPG launchers, Grenov machine guns, and automatic rifles. A large quantity of narcotics was also seized, further confirming the gang’s involvement in drug trafficking.

This decisive operation marked a major victory for Egyptian security forces against organized crime in Upper Egypt. By eliminating one of the country’s most dangerous criminal networks, authorities have reinforced their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.

Malak cannot seem to get enough of Literature - so much so that she has pursued it in both her BA and MA, and the love affair is still going strong. Aside from her love for words, humans generally fascinate her. She spends a lot of her time analyzing the minds of people around her and watching criminal minds. She is still fairly new in adulthood, and until now, nothing has made sense in life but chocolate.
