The Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority has announced that the country’s airspace will remain closed until July 10, with the exception of humanitarian aid flights. This extension comes after the authority had previously extended the closure to June 30 due to ongoing conflicts in the region. The decision to close the airspace was made on April 17, just two days after the war between the country’s army and paramilitary forces broke out.
The warring parties had agreed to a temporary ceasefire to allow the Sudanese citizens to celebrate the Eid al-Adha holiday this week. However, the peace was short-lived as a blast near Sudan’s army headquarters in the capital Khartoum reignited the conflict on Thursday.
