Who is Lenovo, and why another smartphone? Lenovo is a multinational Chinese tech giant famous for challenging Apple and Google in the smartphone industry, and putting forward new smartphone technologies which fill important gaps in other designs. Motorola has designed multiple smartphones, but they have not truly been staying relevant since their introductions. Yes, everyone around the Middle East was obsessed with the Motorola Razr for that one summer, but that was it. However, they’re gradually getting a better reputation in the smartphone world, thanks to their newest invention: MotoZ.
Introducing the MotoZ
In recent weeks, Motorola has been causing a lot of stir with the release of their new smartphone. The MotoZ has been received with mostly positive reviews. It is a simple, straightforward, and solid phone which fills pretty much any need you would have for a smartphone. Its main benefit is its flexibility. Its swappable modules allow the phone to be reprogrammable even by folks who aren’t skilled in coding or computers.
How does this impact the Middle East?
The MotoMods can be clipped into the back of the phone to change the phone to fit different needs, such as extending battery life or processing speed. Since reception across the Middle East can be spotty, especially in smaller towns, there are also mods to increase signal strength (although at the detriment of battery power). Regardless of which country you are in or how remote a location, the cell will be strong enough to pick up signal.
Utilitarian aesthetic
Many have also applauded the new aesthetic of the phone– as opposed to some of the more cheesy and amateur looking models of past Motorola phones, it is sleek, black, and graceful, with no unnecessary ornamentation, cohering nicely with modern Arab fashion. It is extremely thin and light, making it much more capable of being used easily, even if that does lead to a little bit of difficult keeping it in your hand without a case. However, it comes included with a snap-on semi-case which allows the phone to be held more easily and decreases the transfer of heat from phone to hand.
