After doing more than our fair share of sampling over the last several days, we’ve compiled a list of recommendations for sohour this Ramadan, from popular go-to spots to newly discovered eateries and quick bites to lavish spreads:
Sequoia
Consistently high quality with an impeccable view. Few things during Ramadan beat lounging in Sequoia’s airy setting, enjoying shisha on the Nile. Sohour is served a la carte from 9:00 PM to 3:00 AM.

The District
The District’s gorgeously painted rooftop garden, just a stone’s throw from the Corniche, offers sohour provided by Cairo Deli. A friendly community, live music, shisha and a cool breeze on a Ramadan summer night set the stage for a magical sohour.

Kazouza
Kazouza offers a cozy outdoor atmosphere with a stylish retro flavor. Featuring Oriental favorites, you can’t miss with their sohour menu of Egyptian classics.

El Gahsh
A local eatery found deep in the allies of central Cairo, El Gahsh’s name and reputation for a traditional foul and ta3meya sohour is legendary.

Foul Carts
Nothing beats an original foul plate with a couple of eggs and some salad from a foul cart. Scattered all over the city, we recommend:
Ma7rous in Garden City located at 4 El 7aras St. is a must-try.
For Maadi residents, go for 3atteya’s foul cart located on Road 250 right beside Victoria Square.
As for those of you in Heliopolis, don’t miss Hamada Sheraton.
Dusit Thani
Offering live entertainment, a gorgeous setting, a buffet or set sohour menus, Dusit Thani is a standout choice, especially for Tagamoa residents.

This popular spot known for Egyptian fusion is the place to go for a satisfying sohour with a twist and is our go-to spot especially when we’re around Rehab and Tagamoa.

El Hussein
One of Cairo’s most bustling areas during Ramadan, El Hussein offers a series of restaurants and cafes where you can indulge in a delicious sohour in a historic setting.
Our favorite spot is the Zeinab Khatoun outdoor cafe behind Al Azhar Mosque next to Beit Al Oud. Call 025147164 for reservations.
Fel-Felucca
For the ultimate Nile view and an intimate setting, set sail on a comfortable, modernized felucca and enjoy a delectable sohour catered by Crave.

A generous sohour in a popular kheyma with a Moroccan touch. Si Omar is celebrating Ramadan and its 10th anniversary this year.
