Ramses the Great isn’t just a name from your history book; he’s officially the hottest ticket in town. Since opening on March 7, the “Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition in Tokyo has sold over 40,000 tickets, and trust us, the hype is real. If you’re flying to Tokyo, you’ve got until September 7, 2025, to catch it. Don’t sleep on this.

What You’ll See: 180 Ancient Egyptian Treasures on Display

“Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” isn’t your typical museum visit. The Ramses Museum is now home to 180 rare and iconic treasures from Ramses II’s reign, aka the longest and most legendary rule in Ancient Egyptian history (66 years, no big deal).

We’re talking golden masks, animal mummies, stunning jewellery, engraved stone blocks, cosmetics, wooden coffins, and yes, Ramses II’s actual wooden sarcophagus, brought over from the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo.

Also on display: rare finds from Saqqara’s Bubasteion necropolis, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, and royal tombs from Dahshour and Tanis—many of which are being shown outside Egypt for the first time ever.

Step Into Ramses’ World With VR

The cherry on top? The “Journey to Osiris” VR experience. You’ll meet Ramses II and his queen Nefertari and then digitally walk through jaw-dropping recreations of the Abu Simbel Temple and Queen Nefertari’s tomb. It’s giving Indiana Jones but in 4D.

Backed by Egypt, This Exhibition Invites You to Explore the Real Thing

“Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” isn’t just for museum people. It’s officially backed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, who even set up a travel booth inside the venue with QR codes, Japanese-language maps, and info to plan your dream trip to Egypt.

Ramses Fever Hits Tokyo as Part of a Worldwide Tour

It’s not just inside the exhibit, Tokyo itself is decked out in Ramses energy. The streets, the metro, the ads, everywhere you turn, it’s giving Egyptomania.

Before hitting Japan, “Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” already turned heads around the world starting its tour in 2021 in Houston, followed by San Francisco, Paris, Sydney, Cologne. And now, Tokyo is living its ancient Egypt fantasy.

Malak cannot seem to get enough of Literature - so much so that she has pursued it in both her BA and MA, and the love affair is still going strong. Aside from her love for words, humans generally fascinate her. She spends a lot of her time analyzing the minds of people around her and watching criminal minds. She is still fairly new in adulthood, and until now, nothing has made sense in life but chocolate.
