Nike Challenge Episode 2: No “Beginners” Luck in Sight

Episode two of Nike Women’s new web series Margot vs Lily is all about the struggle of learning something new, which is perfect because only one member of our team met their goal this week.

Previously, sisters Margot and Lily bet each other to break out of their comfort zones with their New Year’s resolutions. In this week’s episode, “Beginners”, Margot creates a persona for her new online fitness show and realizes that burpees are not as easy as they look and Lily doesn’t even know where to begin with her challenge (she literally Googles “how to make friends”). Meanwhile, Scoop Team is off to a similarly slow start.

From horrific first dates and daydreaming about french fries to one overachiever who’s making us all look bad, here’s how we did in our first week:

Kurt: Got 37.5 hours of sleep

    kurt

I honestly don’t know how that happened. I tried staying in, but I found myself ending up at some downtown hot spot three days in a row. Life is like a box of chocolates walahy!

    Nada: Lost 0.5 kg

    nada

I don’t remember it being THIS difficult to lose weight! I miss my chocolate and potatoes. It’s not easy eating healthy when you’re out of the house most of the day, so it takes a lot of preparation and dedication. Especially when someone asks me if I want to order fries at the office! I’m hoping by next week I would’ve lost more weight. I think the only thing keeping me going is trying to beat Hady! (I beat you this week, Sherry! Hahahaha)

Samar: Tried 2 new Egyptian experiences

    samar

I left Maadi several times this weekend, which is an accomplishment on my end. As far as experiences go, I ate feteer for the first time, taking baby steps before I eat any organs. I also had my first date with an Egyptian guy and it was terrible to say the least. Going to try to make time for more experiences next week, definitely no more dates.

    Hady: Ran 30.4 km

Once we decided to embark on the Nike #BetterForIt challenge, I hit the ground running (literally). I went straight from work to the gym (which I haven’t been to in over four years) and me and the treadmill became best buddies. I downloaded the Nike Running app, which has multiple programs that prepare you for a 5K, 10K or even a marathon and decided to challenge myself even more and follow a program to run 250 km by the end of the eight-week challenge.

It’s been only one week and I’ve already ran a total of 30.4 km (18.9 miles), which is very close to achieving my original goal, and lost 2.3 kg (5.07 lbs) in the process.

    Dina: Meditated 8 minutes

    dina

I mediated eight minutes out of the 135. I’m ashamed of myself. I spent those eight minutes thinking non-stop about work, nurseries, schools. It was a disaster by all means. I’ll try harder this week… NOT. I don’t even have time to Google how to meditate.

Aprille: Went to 0 yoga classes

    SCOOP-10

I planned on going to a Dynamic Yoga class, but life happened and I ended up spending the week putting out major fires in my personal life and by the time the weekend came, all I had energy for was binge watching. I didn’t go to any yoga classes, but I did watch five episodes of Narcos and three mediocre rom-coms. Does Netflix and chill count?

Sherry: Went to 2 fitness classes

    sherry

    Sabrina: Ate 4 healthy meals

    sab

Monaliza: Went to 0 drum lessons

    SCOOP-05

It’s been a while now since I moved to Dubai and thinking of proceeding with my drum sessions (taught by my husband) in hopes of being a pro drummer. And since I’m actually living with a professional drummer, I was supposed to be done with my 7th session or something, and giving my neighbors nightmares by now! But I didn’t get the chance or had the time to even hold the sticks. Well, the good news is that I still remember the basics and hopefully will start adding to them next week. Wish me luck!

Islam: Went to the gym 1 time

    SCOOP-11

I only went once, but it was my first time after over one year, and I’m already regretting it. I didn’t have enough time last week, plus it was cold and I’m too lazy! Hopefully, I’ll go three times this week and honestly, that’s enough!
