We have seen so many fashion festivals and fashion weeks like the archetypical Fashion week of New York, Paris, and Milan that leaves loud echoes of applause and criticism. However, The de Young Museum of Fine Art in San Francisco took the lead in setting the Contemporary Muslim Fashions, to be the first major exhibition to ever showcase the diverse nature of Muslim dress codes worldwide.
Contemporary Muslim Fashions will run from September 22, 2018 to January 06, 2019 at the de Young Museum, San Francisco, California. The exhibition is the prime platform to explore the modern Muslim women and their portrayal, their diverse cultures, and presentation when it comes to fashion.
We will be expecting to see a variety of high-end names and both regional and international designers, like the Eid and Ramadan collections by Oscar de la Renta, to high-end Abayas by Faiza Bouguessa. Dolce & Gabanna will be among the European designers, and there will be a portion set to explore the sportswear and streetwear inspired by Muslim culture such as Nike hijab, the award-winning innovation, in addition to the burkini.
The whole idea of the six-month-long show goes back to the museum’s new director Max Hollein, who took the role in 2016. “There are those who believe that there is no fashion at all among Muslim women, but the opposite is true, with modern, vibrant, and extraordinary fashion scenes, particularly in many Muslim-majority countries,” Hollein elaborated in a press release.
