Music enthusiasts are marking their calendars as this weekend marks the launch of the 12th edition of the Cairo Jazz Festival! It’ll take place from the 13th till the 20th of November with the main program at the AUC Tahrir Cultural Center and additional performances at the Cairo Jazz Club, Darb 1718, and Room Art Space!
If you’ve never heard before about the Cairo Jazz Festival, let us enlighten you. The CJF is a multi-disciplinary international event that aims to celebrate Jazz by the Nile as one of the unique art forms in history; it was founded in 2009 by accomplished musician, Amro Salah, with the initiative to increase awareness and promote Jazz music in Egypt.
The 12th edition looks as promising as ever, and it’s not only because of the exciting line-up of music performances, but also because there will be some very interesting masterclasses, workshops, exhibitions, seminars, open mics, and more!
More than 25 jazz bands from over 10 countries are heading to Cairo as there will be performances from Switzerland, Denmark, Chile, Croatia, the Netherlands, Romania and many Arab countries.
In the opening, Egyptian Grammy-winning music producer Fathy Salama and his band Sharkiat will feature Islamic Sufi chanter Mahmoud El-Tohamy and a number of his musicians in a Sufism vs Modernism concert at the Garden stage.
Throughout the festival there will be performances from acclaimed musicians like Ahmed Nazmi group, Mai Kamal, Alex Simu, Los Compadres ft. Cristian Cuturrufo (Chile), Telepoetic, Hesham Galal Trio with Amena El Abd, Rami Attallah Trio feat. Sara Moullablad, Samer George, Ali El Helbawi feat. Alex Simu (EG/RO/NL), Eswed w Abyad, Elina Duni Trio (Switzerland), Claudia Campagnol (Denmark), Portuguese Ricardo Formoso Quintet, Elvis Stanic with Noha Fekry and Amro Salah Trio (Croatia/Egypt) and Eftekasat feat. Alex Simu (Romania).
