There is no worse feeling for a mom than feeling alone. It sucks. And even if we are surrounded by littles, the feeling creeps on you and takes over. I’m all by myself. I am solely responsible for these monsters. Now please don’t get me wrong, I am very lucky to have Superdad, but it just isn’t the same. That moment when you’re exhausted and all you want to do is crawl into bed and make the day end… but you can’t… because your littles are still in their school clothes and there’s dried paint in their fingernails.
Well, chances are that you are not alone. Your beautiful mind is just playing this horrible trick on you. It’s pulling you into a dark place for no reason. You need to be able to step out of your body, look at the situation at hand, evaluate and jump back in.
Our minds are masters at playing us for the fools that we are. The grass is greener on the other side. What if I pack a bag and run away? What if I never got married in the first place? What if I did leave this town and find myself? What if I go in search for true love? What if what if what if…
Well, let me be your wake up call.
Nobody is happy unless they choose to be.
I know successful women running businesses left and right with perfect manicures and a schedule too busy for the pish posh of meeting someone. They hop on planes and wear designer shoes, in the morning! Some of them beam happiness just like their smiles, from ear to ear. Some of them reek of so much misery you want to make them a cup of tea and hand them a tissue.
I know divorced women with kids that exude so much light and happiness it truly is contagious. They handle everything with so much grace and elegance it’s almost unnatural. I also know divorced women with a massive support system that wallow in enough self-pity you’d need a lifesaver just to get out of their company.
We all know beautiful married women with a not-so-perfect husband who are joyful and active and just winning at life all around. There are also married women with superdads that make you want to jump out the nearest window when they begin to complain of their first world problems.
I promise you, your life is what you make of it. It’s all in your head. Yes, sometimes its okay to succumb to some negative emotions. You are human. It would be impossible to be constantly shitting rainbows. But don’t let the darkness get the best of you. If you feel like someone is taking you for granted, demand that they change that. Put your foot down and scream if you have to. Be your own happiness and everyone else will just have to catch up with you. You are responsible for your happiness, do not put it in someone else’s hands.
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, its greener where you water it.
