Ever since he got injured at January’s Africa Cup of Nations, Mohamed Salah has been placed at the crossroads between the interests of Liverpool vs. Egypt. Since sustaining the thigh injury, he missed the English Premier League club’s last four matches.
For some time, the Egyptian national team attempted to have the star player join them to play New Zealand’s All Whites on March 22 despite Liverpool’s refusal, but today, that’s no longer happening.
Liverpool’s Reasoning
Liverpool didn’t want to risk Salah making his injury worse. “We have already received a letter from Liverpool to exempt Mohamed Salah from the upcoming camp due to his injury,” the Egypt FA said in a statement.
Egypt’s Response
The Egyptian national team manager, Ibrahim Hassan, clearly responded to Liverpool’s request. He insisted that only the national team coaching staff will have a say in who gets to play and who doesn’t. They’ll also ensure everyone’s safety.
Sometime later, that decision was changed, and today, the star player won’t play the upcoming match, which will allow him the time to build up his fitness after he missed out on 10 matches since January.
