Ok .. so I am just killing time till the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL.. and this is by no means a “round up” per se… but …AW MA GAWD.. the jobs some coaches take just blow my mind. Marcello Lippi, former Italian national team and Juventus coach, is now.. get this.. COACHING THE GUANGZHOU EVERGRANDE! For the geographically challenged… THAT’S IN CHINA.
Italian football coaches have no place in China (personal opinion), but having said that… the Chinese Super League (yes, that’s what it is called) has seen a steady influx of big names in the last year. Argentine Dario Conca transferred over to Guangzhou from his Brazilian squad Fluminense for a hefty fee, also some avid footie fans may recall Chelsea’s resident pain in the bum, Nicolas Anelka, moving to Shanghai for a fresh start.
This seems much like the random appearance of famous coaches and players in the Middle East, signing deals for earth-shattering amounts of money (Batituta was perhaps the first, but several followed suit.. most recently.. Diego Maradona).
Anyway.. I’m honestly just impatiently waiting for the final of the Champions League that’s why I’m hating on Marcello Lippi…. (well that.. and because he used to coach Juventus, ekh)
