She Dj’s and she just started producing her own music, we got a one on one with Egypt’s rising female DJ, to try and understand how she feels in such a male dominated business!
1. We hear your a female and a DJ, which one is more true and which one do you relate to more.
I don’t relate to being a Dj , most of the time I forget I’m a Dj!
2. In discovering your super power to move people and make them dance, what have you found to be the most challenging part of your career?
The most challenging part has to be being female in this industry. I’m the only girl in an all boys club and that can be a lonely place. But I have a few good friends in that club that support and encourage me.
3. What is the craziest thing you have encountered being behind the decks?
A girl once came up to me and claimed to be a Dj , I smiled at her and continued mixing. She shortly hit the cue (stop) button and the music stopped in the middle of the night in the club! Needles to say I was fuming but I had to remain calm, no wants to see an angry Dj . Note to girls (and boys) please don’t touch anything, it is really not funny
4. Tell us if being a girl DJ here in Egypt caused you any problems.
In the beginning yes. I was constantly judged for my choice of being a Dj and staying out late and subjected to the automatic assumption that it effects my morals.
