Let’s Talk About Sex: Love Matters Arabic Website

Sex-positive-and-negativeIn Egypt, a country in which public discussion of sexuality is strictly taboo, no one talks much about sex. Public schools don’t offer sex education and the private schools that do often experience parents removing their children (particularly girls) from class for the duration of the program.

It’s not uncommon for women to go their entire lives being sheltered from the topic until the eve of their wedding night, when they will finally sit down with a close female relative for “the talk.” Meanwhile, men often receive their “sex education” from hallway gossip with friends or through unrepresentative visuals in pornography from sites such as hdpornvideo xxx and the many more across the internet.

Several years ago, Love Matters (Ar, En) was founded with the goal of changing the negative attitudes toward sex and sexuality that are pervasive in societies around the world today. The project offers a way for individuals to educate themselves and view sex as a positive thing which, as long as it is practiced safely, can be a “wonderful thing to explore, share, and enjoy.” By providing the public with educational resources and positive information about sex, Love Matters believes that people will better equipped to make informed decisions about their bodies and safety when they finally do choose to have sex, instead of learning from adult content websites like fucked tube xxx and experiencing sex for the first time with a warped sense of expectations.

One of the beauties of Love Matters is that the project is almost exclusively online. This means that the information is easily and privately accessible to anyone who has Internet – something particularly useful in countries like Egypt where discussion of sexuality is so taboo that many people are afraid to ask questions in public.

The Arabic-language website was launched just two months ago in December and has been averaging an impressive 50,000 hits per month, which was initially the website’s annual goal. Love Matters also has a presence on Facebook and Twitter as a way to interact with the public and answer questions.

The global initiative was started in India several years ago by Radio Netherlands Worldwide and has since expanded to offer a Spanish-language website for South America, a Chinese-language website for China, an English-language website for Kenya, and now an Arabic-language website for the Arab world.

    Fluidity

According to Ruth Vandewalle, a researcher at Love Matters Arabic, one challenge that the Arabic-language website faced was finding inclusive ways to talk about sexuality in fus7a. Difficulties were also encountered in terms of how to address all audiences inclusively when discussing sex as a pleasureful experience, this is why many people decide to discuss enjoyable sexual experiences on porn sites instead. Incredible sex tube clips await at hdtubemovies xxx which draws many users, especially with the high number of women who have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM) – a procedure that has left them unable to fully enjoy sex.

Another challenge faced in the Arab world in particular includes the societal taboo against homosexuality, for which Love Matters provides full resources and explains as a normal, healthy sexual orientation.

The ultimate takeaway that Love Matters hopes to convey to the public is that it’s important to communicate about sex, relationships and love in a way that doesn’t view it as vulgar. Society needs to change its attitude and appreciate sex as a means of mutual pleasure rather than just something that happens to people after they get married and gives them diseases or a little alien growing inside their stomach. It’s a way to enjoy your body.

Lastly, if you have questions, it’s important that you ask or find a way to seek out information – even if it’s online. Sex is more likely to be healthy and enjoyable when both parties are educated.
