This week, Egypt is mourning after a terrorist attack took place leaving 20 dead, around 50 injured, and causing millions of pounds worth of damage to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In a statement, the Ministry of Interior explained that a vehicle carrying explosives collided with three other cars.
TV host, Amr Adib, soon launched a donation campaign for the institute on his show El-Hekaya and managed to collect millions.
The crown prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, donated EGP 50m. The Al-Orman charity association donated EGP 10m. Garhy Steel donated EGP 3m. Naguib Sawiris as well as Abu Hashima donated EGP 1m while an anonymous businessman came forward with EGP 500,000.
Another campaign was launched by the TV presenter, Iman ElMasry, where Egyptian buisness and construction tycoon, Hisham Talaat Mostafa, donated EGP 10m.
TV presenter Ahmed Moussa stated that the owner of the satellie channel Sada El-Balad, Mohamed Abol Einien, will provide the institute with all the ceramics required to rebuild it.
The Egyptian Network for Cancer in the US offered EGP 1m. Minister of Social Solidarity, Ghada Waly, took to social media to state that ElMoqawleen ElArab construction workers were already restoring the damage hours after the incident took place, in addition to allocating EGP 5m from the Nasser Social Bank to contribute to the rebuild.
Rumors are circulating that Egyptian football legend, Mohamed Salah, donated $3m, however, the player did not officially confirm the news.
In less than 24 hours, Egyptian donations reached EGP 80m. Other than the multiple financial donations, the Saudi embassy in Cairo launched The Blood Links which is a two-day campaign for blood donation following the Health Committee of the House of Representatives’ plea.
