Wear light layers to keep it breezy
The best people to learn from in this situation are the fala7een, they know what’s up when it comes to dealing with the heat – it’s all about keeping the breeze. Galabeyas are the way to go, but sadly it’s not an outfit to try out on a Friday night in Zamalek, so keep it safe and wear the lightest shirts you own.
Carry something to fan yourself with
If you think you’re classy, then walk around with a hand fan, but most of us aren’t about that life, so stick to something that you know will work, like a piece of paper. You might look bee2a fanning yourself in the middle of a restaurant, but anything is worth stopping your makeup becoming blotchy.
Keep hydrated
You forget how important water is until you’re stuck in traffic on the Mehwar and the AC in your car isn’t working, so you have the windows open and you’re longing for a sip of water. If you’re one of those people that likes to prepare ahead of time, freeze your water bottles before you sleep to have cold water all day every day.
Carry tissues around for when the sweat begins to pour
You need to prepare yourself for the sweat because it will come and when it does, it won’t be pretty. You need to keep dabbing until the sweat is gone or else you’ll be left with sweat patches everywhere – not pretty.
Stay indoors unless it’s an emergency
Don’t leave the AC unless your friend just called you and told you that he got arrested and needs you to bail him out. There are very few things that will seem urgent enough for you to leave your house, think wisely before you enter the heat.
If you will be outdoors, make sure you’re at the beach or tanning by the pool
Unless you have a large body of water near you that you can dive into when you feel like the heat is about to suffocate you, then don’t go out. It’s not worth it.
Wear light colours
We all know that light colours reflect the heat, so be smart when you’re trying to figure out what to wear, it makes a difference.
Avoid adding more warmth by eating fresh food and drinking cooling drinks
Stick to salads and ice coffees to make sure you aren’t always warm, it may seem like it doesn’t make a difference but it really does, plus it gives you the excuse to be healthy for a few days.
