Many college students aspire to take the Medical College Admission Test (sometimes better known as the MCAT) because they want a career in the healthcare field either in the US or in Canada. However, some students need a bit more help in preparing for the MCAT so that they can get an acceptable score. If this sounds like you, you may need to study with Magoosh Prep Materials to increase your chances of successfully getting into med school.

    What is Magoosh?

Magoosh is a website that offers MCAT prep materials to students that are studying for this exam. The MCAT itself is not administered by Magoosh but by the AAMC or Association of American Medical Colleges. Magoosh just aims to boost the scores of college students on the MCAT so that they will be able to qualify for admission to med schools.

Steps to Follow in Using Magoosh Prep Materials for MCAT

Step #1 Examine Your Academic Background – Students with an excellent background in academics will probably have an easier time preparing for the MCAT because the MCAT tackles the following subject matter:

    • Sociology
    • Psychology
    • Physics
    • Biochemistry
    • General Biology
    • Organic Chemistry
    • General Chemistry

The MCAT will also test your skills in critical analysis and reasoning.

If your grades in those subjects are not that great, you may be at a disadvantage compared to students with better preparation. You will need to improve your foundation in those subjects prior to taking the MCAT.

Step #2 Access the Magoosh Website – The Magoosh website can be accessed online through any computer with an internet connection. As long as you have an account on Magoosh, you will be able to study online. This makes it very easy for students to tap into the website for learning materials.

Step #3 Pick Your Study Plan Schedule – Students can choose their own study plan schedule. You can customize the duration of your study plan from 1 month, 2 months, 3 months or 6 months. This means that you really have to commit to a fixed schedule of review if you expect to raise your test scores. For example, if you choose a 6-month study plan you will be able to study between 15 to 25 hours weekly. If you have other activities during those six months, it may be wiser to put those on hold until you have passed the MCAT.

Step #4 Be Prepared to Sacrifice – The Magoosh system aims to make students used to grueling study habits. For one thing, you will have to study for as much as four hours per day if you choose the Magoosh 6-month study plan. That will last for six days per week, so you get Saturdays as your day off. There are also practice exams that take up to seven hours per day to complete. All this hard work is worth it, however, because it is meant to prepare you for the actual MCAT exams.

Step #5 Be Prepared to Answer Magoosh Test Questions At Least Twice – Under the Magoosh system, they recommend you to go back and answer test questions for the MCAT review at least two to three times. This helps you get familiar with the exam topics and stores the correct answers to your long-term memory. The Magoosh company claims that students who follow this rule are able to get higher scores on the MCAT. In addition, this rule also helps students remember what process they followed in coming up with the correct answers to the tests.

Step #6 Aim for a 528 Score – Students using the Magoosh system are highly encouraged to aim to get a total score of 528 in the MCAT. That is the highest possible score because it means you were able to get correct answers in each and every question given through the Magoosh MCAT system. Since med schools are very difficult to get into, you will find that almost everyone who will take the MCAT will be very competitive and aim to get the highest possible score that they can. If you practice on getting an excellent score each and every time, getting a 528 score is a near possibility.

    Conclusion

Since many students will be competing to get into the best med schools in the US and Canada, it is wise to review for the MCAT through the Magoosh system. The Magoosh system aims to boost MCAT scores of their students so that it will be easier to be admitted into med school. You will need to prepare well and remain committed to your studies if you intend to embark on a career in health care. The Magoosh system has been proven to be a good way to review for the MCAT – so don’t be afraid of adhering to their high standards so that you easily pass the med school entrance requirements.
