After their promo got us super excited, the day has finally come for Egypt’s most-awaited event of the year, the magnificent once in a lifetime Pharaohs’ Golden Parade or the royal mummy procession, where 22 mummies of ancient Egypt’s kings and queens will be transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to their new home, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat. As this is a first of it’s kind event, you wouldn’t want to miss it, so scroll down for all you need to know about this glamorous parade.
The event will begin at 6 pm (Cairo time), and will kick off with 21-gun salutes joined by a military band
The names of the kings and queens will be inscribed in Arabic and hieroglyphs
The mummies include those of Kings Ramses II, Seti I, Seqnenre and Tuthmoses III, as well as Queens Hatshepsut; Meritamun; wife of King Amenhotep I and Ahmose Nefertari, wife of King Ahmose
Several artists will be participating in the parade, including Mona Zaki, Hussein Fahmy, Yousra, Hend Sabry, Amina Khalil, and Asser Yassin. “The King” Mohamed Mounir has also recorded a special song for the event.
Entry and exit points to Tahrir Square will be closed, and Qasr El-Nile Bridge, El-Gamaa Bridge, Abbas Bridge, and Misr-Helwan Road will also be shut. So if it’s not urgent, better not leave your house.
