Our Egyptian existence is anything but happy. From an insane economic crisis and political woes, to not even affording the simple joys of our sad life, aka Nescafe and Nutella, God sent us something that has been putting a huge smile on our faces for the past few weeks.
How epic are those two Coca-Cola songs? We finally feel now patriotic and a sense of belonging again. The Africa Cup of Nations football games brought us all together and it would have been nothing without the new Egyptian rendition of “Old McDonald Had A Farm”.
Football fans are singing it, the radio is playing it, my three-year-old child wants to watch it instead of Frozen and kids actually say “Cooper Loh elkelma elneha2iya”, and that is the definition of a successful campaign.
And just when we thought that epic 80s ping pong club ad is as cool as it gets, another song emerged and the timing was just sensational. We’re kind of assuming it was meant to celebrate the team’s big final win, alas the lyrics uplifted everyone’s spirits after the unfortunate loss. It is the perfect thank you to a team that tried its best.
