    Food Review: Gaby’s at Citystars

I hate Citystars. Truly, I do. But when shopping calls, you have to admit – a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. After a good afternoon shopping session, the hunger craves started to kick in and after a “what do you feel like eating?” mind-numbing discussion, my friend and I decided to head down to Gaby’s.

Walking into Gaby’s, you get that whole hipster brick wall, flowers and chalkboard vibe. Although it was a bit crowded, being mid week, we were seated instantly on the comfortable couches and ordered a Grape shisha to puff away at while we picked our order.

With a wide variety of international cuisine ranging from American buffalo wings to Greek kofta and German schnitzels, the menu also listed numerous salads, pastas and unique sandwich creations.

To start off our meal, we decided to opt for one of Gaby’s famous fiteers. The Kofta and Mayo Fiteera was served on a wooden board with French fries. I’m a huge fiteer fan so I was really excited to try out this creation. Stuffed with flavored beef and lamb kofta with (an abundance) of mozzarella cheese and mayonnaise, the fiteera definitely did not disappoint. My only struggle was keeping the fillings inside to fully indulge every bite.

I ordered an Exotic Colada to accompany my meal and although it was a little bit too sweet for my personal preference, it was exploding with flavor. The balance between the peach, pineapple and coconut transported me to a summery destination, which was a delightful experience.

For my main course, my eyes fell on the Fillet of Scottish Salmon Tahitian Style. I wanted something light but filling and the grilled salmon was just that. The creamy lemon sauce had a subtle citrous taste while the Basmati rice – although lacking a bit of flavor – balanced out the salmon taste nicely. What caught my eye the most was how fresh the salmon fillet was, so even though it was a steep 120 EGP I didn’t mind paying with the guaranteed fresh taste.

My friend also decided to go for something lighter. Very excited to see quinoa on an Egyptian menu, she opted for the Grainy Quinoa & Teriyaki Chicken Salad and I can you tell by how fast she finished the dish that it did not disappoint.

We rounded up our meal with a classic Cheesecake topped with a rich raspberry topping. The creamy but light texture balanced with a fruity syrup was just the right pick to leave us smiling for the rest of the day.

Our cheque totaled 415 EGP with tip – a tad bit pricey, but it was worth it for the high quality food and service. Gaby’s also serves a daily breakfast menu that we can’t wait to drop by and try sometime.
