    Fashion Meets Film In Egypt

Lately in Cairo, girls and women have become more daring with their wardrobes. Okay, some really misinterpret the term “fashionista” and then we have to deal with the eye pollution that they cause, but we have to give credit to the girls who know what they’re doing when they get dressed.

It’s clear that emerging fashion in this city is pushing boundaries. We can see this at parties, on the beach and even randomly in the streets.

But have we ever seen an Egyptian fashion film?

The always fashionable and trend-setting Ashraf Hamdi is currently working on a new project: a fashion film with a message – not just shots of models with different outfits, but a narrative that tells a story.

Hamdi is looking for a girl between the ages of 19 and 24 to star in this new movie. “I’m not looking for a typical model. I am looking for an actress who can model or a model that can act,” he explained.

Hamdi’s background says it all: He risked everything, including his dentistry diploma, to follow his passion for filmmaking and acting. The gamble paid off and Hamdi now has a full schedule of writing, hosting and acting in international, local and personal projects.

If you liked him in Ramadan’s 3ala kaf 3afreet series, just wait for Adam w Gameela, which is now filming. And did you know that Hamdi was the man behind the “Dubizzle” campaigns and TV series 3ala feen? Brilliant work!

To know more about Hamdi’s background check him on IMDB:

For Hamdi, it’s important that he supports rising talent, not only because he values the fresh energy but because he received little of the same help when he started.

One talent he’s supporting is the young diva Hadia Ghaleb, who will be the stylist of Hamdi’s fashion film. Ghaleb is finishing her senior year at AUC and plans to study fashion styling and design in London.

Ghaleb confessed that she is extremely excited but also anxious about Hamdi’s film.

“My biggest projects consisted of editorials that didn’t exceed four pages. Now it is a little intimidating to be working on a film where there will be a minimum of 14 outfits to be styled and approved by someone with great standards like Ashraf. I hope I’m up for it,” she said.

In her first fashion editorial, “A Doll’s House,” Ghaleb incorporated literary references to illustrate today’s Egyptian woman. In my opinion, a great piece! She aims to prove to her readers that fashion doesn’t have to be shallow, but is rather a form of art that can express meaningful messages.

Back to the fashion film that we’re all now waiting for!

The team is almost ready to start. Members include Cinematographer Peter Morcos and Assistant Director Yousra Fawzy. If you think you have what it takes to be the lead actress in this project and can pull off of Hadia’s styles, send an email to abovethelimitfilms@gmail.com.
