A very loud exploding sound was heard, and felt, in many areas in Cairo and Giza around 11 am; mostly in 6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, Maadi, and Haram. We even felt it in our Scoop Empire office in Maadi.
Many began asking what the source of the sound was, and others began claiming that it was an explosion. The most popular rumor was that it was a bomb in 6th of October; which would make sense as to why it was heard there and in Zayed maybe, but that would make it physically impossible for it to be heard in other areas. The news was shared in many websites and Facebook pages, including Bey2olak who later deleted the post.
There hasn’t been a confirmation of what caused the sound, but it has been confirmed that there haven’t been any bombs. The logical explanation, however, is that a sonic boom is what caused the sound.
A sonic boom is a sound associated with the shock waves created by an object traveling through the air faster than the speed of sound. Which makes sense as to why it was heard in many locations, and people physically felt it as well.
Military planes have been also seen for the past few days flying around the Sahrawy area, and it would be very common to have aerial training on low spaces, which would cause sonic booms.
