El Mojito, the bustling nightclub that was once located on top of the Nile Hilton, has officially reopened on the rooftop of the Conrad Cairo Hotel downtown. Last week’s opening night, May 16th, featured an open bar under the stars, live entertainment and an eager crowd.
To our joy, we were greeted at the entrance by a well-dressed server holding a platter of various types of sparkling wine.
One of the first things we noticed when we entered the rooftop terrace was the mixed crowd. There were people from literally every age group, foreigners and Egyptians, couples and singles and everyone in between.
We were pleased to discover that the new Mojito had not one, not two, but five bars spread out around the rooftop. This meant shorter lines, better service and less distance to walk to get drinks.
Although the music that night wasn’t our favorite, it was well compensated for by the amount of alcohol put in the drinks. We watched one of the bartenders make our energy drink + vodka cocktail, and the drink was at least half Absolut. Not bad.
By the time the pyrotechnics began, the night was well underway and guests were beginning to feel the effects. Overlooking the rooftop, a group of performers dressed in glow-in-the-dark skeleton suits played instruments along with an intense soundtrack. Three drummers held flaming drum sticks lit at the tip. While the visual aspect of the performance was appealing, there was a lag time between the performers’ movements and the music and there were times when it appeared very out of sync – or maybe that was just our vision…
Around midnight, the shift from people standing around on the dance floor to actual dancing began. Others enjoyed their time in the shisha area away from the noise and commotion, or sat off to the side near the main bar. Overall, as I’m sure the last guests would attest, El Mojito’s grand relaunch did not disappoint.
