Lebanese songstress, Myriam Fares, has been suffering from an intense social media backlash after describing herself as too expensive for Egypt.
Celebrities, music producers, and event organizers from across Egypt responded that contrary to what she believes, she’s simply not relevant enough to perform in Egypt regardless of her fees.
In an unexpected turn of events, Egypt’s Musicians Syndicate decided to be more tolerant and forgave the songstress for her statement. The decision obviously didn’t sit well with everyone else considering the syndicate’s status regarding Egyptian superstar Sherine Abdel Wahab.
During an interview with Masrawy, the spokesman for the Musicians Syndicate stated that they refused to be dragged into a situation where both singers’ issues are compared. Although Fares is not a member of the syndicate, the singer contacted Hany Shaker, the head of the Musicians Syndicate, to apologize and explain the misunderstanding, in addition to releasing an official statement regarding the matter.
The syndicate added that Sherine Abdel Wahab insulted Egypt in public statements more than once, claiming they were not subject to any misunderstanding. Masrawy further reported that Shaker, along with the head of the Actors Syndicate, Ashraf Zaki, had a meeting with Abdel Wahab and her husband Hossam Habib. The singer was supposed to publicly apologize in a video to Egypt, yet failed to do so due to her busy schedule.
