Egyptian football has had players of the highest caliber and potential who went on to play for top international clubs. Mohamed Salah is currently in charge of this campaign. But, we must also take into account other players who are currently playing overseas and the older generations of pros who served as an inspiration to these excellent players. Therefore, we’ll list the top Egyptian footballers who are excelling overseas.

    Mahmoud Trezeguet

Aston Villa announced the signing of Egyptian winger Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” back in 2019. After Ahmed Elmohamady, who played right-back for Villa, he became the second Egyptian to play for Villa. Trezeguet also became the 12th Egyptian to play in the Premier League, joining Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” Ahmed Fathi, Hossam Ghaly, and others. He joined from Turkish club Kasmpaşa for £8.75 million plus add-ons. He currently represents Turkish club Trabzonspor, which will allow him to make his long-awaited debut in the UEFA Champions League.

    Mido

Ahmed Hossam Hussein who is also known as “Mido” is a former player who played as a striker. Mido started with Zamalek in Egypt in 1999. He left for Gent of Belgium in 2000, where he won the Belgian Ebony Shoe. This led him to move to many European teams such as Ajax Amsterdam, Tottenham Hotspur, and Roma then rejoined Zamalek in 2011. He played for Egypt 51 times and scored 20 goals. After his retirement, he turned to analyzing Premier League matches and Champions League matches on different channels.

    Ahmed Hassan

Hassan has played 184 times for the Egyptian National Team and is regarded as one of the best players in African football. He has earned the fourth-most caps of any male football player in history. After making an impression with his hometown club Aswan and scoring seven goals in 15 appearances for the team, he began his international career in 1995 at the age of 20. Later, he represented Turkish teams Beşiktas, Kocaelispor, Denizlispor, and Gençlerbirlii. Additionally, he participated in Anderlecht’s run to the UEFA Champions League and developed into a key component of the attack, providing assists and scoring goals himself.

    Ahmed Elmohamady

Ahmed Eissa Elmohamady Abdel Fattah is an Egyptian professional footballer who plays as a right-back. Currently a free agent, he most recently played for Premier League club Aston Villa. On August 30th, 2012, Elmohamady moved to Hull City of the Championship on a season-long loan deal, favoring a move that would see him reunited with former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce. He made his senior international debut representing Egypt in August 2007 at the age of 19 in a friendly against Ivory Coast in Paris. Also, he was included in Egypt’s final 2008 Africa Cup of Nations squad.

    Omar Marmoush

Marmoush got his first taste of the Bundesliga back in May 2020, as a reward for his nine goals in 15 outings for the reserve team in the 2019/20 Regionalliga Nord (fourth German football tier). Marmoush also has the experience of 21 Bundesliga 2 appearances. He was included in Egypt’s squad for the 2017 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Zambia. Then on October 8th, 2021, Marmoush made his debut for the Egypt national team and scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Libya.

    Mohamed Elneny

Mohamed Elneny plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal and the Egypt national team. He started out in the Egyptian Premier League, before moving to Swiss club Basel where he won eight awards, including the Swiss Super League in each of his four seasons. He is an integral part of the Gunners and wields a vast amount of experience in English football. He represented his country during the Russia World Cup and brought joy to the eyes of those who watch him.

With players of this caliber, the younger generation’s prospects for representing their nation and playing overseas to get fantastic experiences are unquestionably bright. With Salah’s recent international success, the standard has been lifted, and hopefully, more talent will emerge.
