Food Review: Delano City Stars – Reward Your Senses

Rarely do we describe a place in Cairo as a true dining experience. City Stars, however, just got lucky and landed  a new restaurant in Phase 2, Delano, which manages to do exactly that.

Delano, which translates to ‘night time’ in Latin, merges fine cuisine with an out of the box, Salvador Dali-esque ambiance.

As soon as you set foot in the store your senses are provoked with chandeliers locked inside cages and a display of baby cactuses displayed on a large mural on the left.

Service is fast and welcoming, you are instantly greeted with someone who directs you to your table which is complimented with some bright red seating –needless to say a color in perfect juxtaposition with the neutral wooden boards nailed across the restaurant.

The cuisine accommodates all tastes with a large variety that includes but isn’t limited to seafood, pizza, pasta and fillet and an array of sauces, sides and toppings.

    THE FOOD BREAKDOWN:

bruschetaBruschetta: Served in a white round porcelain plate, we decided to go for the safe entree. Although we would’ve liked it to be a little warmer, we were delighted with the soft center and abundance of mozzarella and tomato topping. The oil was the perfect amount and not the usual overwhelming serving.

Rocket salad: Served with golden apple, Roquefort and a strawberry vinaigrette, this mix of flavors was a unique experience. Our senses were intrigued by the balance of strawberry with the aged cheese. The Roquefort wasn’t the largest serving; we would’ve recommended a bit more in order to balance out the sweet strawberry taste, but all in all the salad was the right serving size – enough for two to share or one hungry patron.

Fillet with a side of roasted vegetables and mushroom sauce: Lets take a a pause for a second and have a look below at how the fillet was served!

Impeccable. The artsy person in us could not resist jumping up and down at the sight of this beautiful wooden plate. The meat was a rewarding tender taste coupled beautifully with a creamy mushroom sauce. Although the sauce was a little buttery, the roasted vegetables on the side were cooked to perfection.

Priced at 106 L.E, we agreed that the fillet was very much worth the reasonable price tag.

fondondelanoChocolate fondant:  For dessert we opted for a classic chocolate fondant. The creamy chocolate explosion did wonders to our sweet tooth. Served with a vanilla ice cream topping we couldn’t help but notice how homey the vanilla tasted. The exterior was a bit hard on the edges, however that softened up as the chocolate oozed out of the sides.

Overall, we had a one of a kind food experience at Delano. If you’ve been on the look out for a new place to enjoy an after work lunch or a late night dinner. A place with some avant-garde decor, great taste and an all around top notch food experience, Delano is where you should be heading.
