Cosmic Timing: The Lunar and Solar Eclipses Closing Ramadan 2025

Ramadan 2025 kicked off with a dazzling planetary alignment. Now, as we’re halfway through the month, it brings with it not one but two stunning astronomical events.

As the month comes to a close, the sky will put on a rare display—a total lunar eclipse and a partial solar eclipse happening just as Muslims prepare to sight the Shawwal moon.

This overlap of faith and science has captured the interest of both astronomers and worshippers, adding a cosmic touch to the already significant conclusion of Ramadan.

On March 13-14, a total lunar eclipse—also known as a blood moon—will occur. As Earth’s shadow completely covers the moon, it will take on a deep red hue, a phenomenon that has fascinated civilizations for centuries.

This event will be visible across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other parts of the Middle East, though not in Egypt. Since it coincides with the full moon of Ramadan, it offers a rare moment where faith and celestial wonder align.

Just before Ramadan ends, another astronomical event will take place. On March 29, a partial solar eclipse will unfold, with the moon covering up to 94% of the sun at its peak. The eclipse occurs during the new moon phase, the very moment that determines the start of Eid al-Fitr.

While some in the MENA region may not witness it firsthand, its occurrence at this symbolic time makes it all the more significant.

Throughout history, celestial events have been seen as moments for deep reflection and prayer. Many Islamic scholars emphasize that eclipses serve as reminders of divine power and opportunities for special supplications.

With Ramadan already being a month of heightened spirituality, this eclipse feels like a fitting conclusion—signifying renewal, transformation, and the transition into Eid al-Fitr. Whether observed scientifically or spiritually, it adds another layer of meaning to an already sacred time!

    A Ramadan to Remember

Ramadan started off this year with a planetary alignment. Add to that a blood moon followed by a solar eclipse, and that makes Ramadan 2025 a truly remarkable month.

Even for those unable to witness these celestial events directly, their timing deepens the reflective nature of Ramadan. As people prepare to celebrate Eid, they’ll also remember how this Ramadan was uniquely marked by the wonders of the universe, making it one for the history books.
