Bosaina & Crew backstage during Europe Tour

Last week I got the opportunity to sit down with a dear friend of mine; Bosaina before she embarked on her European Tour. Being proud of where she has been and where she is going is an understatement, but as an artist and a person she remains an enigma to most.

Here’s your chance to get to know the person behind the CRAZY talented performer:

We know that your a dreamer, as corny as this sounds you’ve chased after every little thought that has popped in your head, how have you finally settled on music?

I haven’t settled on anything to be honest. I’ve been doing all these things my whole life in phases. None of it is new or foreign to me. I’m private with preparation which is why no one really knows what I’m up to till I’m doing it. I’ve always been doing it.

Rumors are swirling around that your going on tour with your band, tell us a little more; how did this come about, where you going?

We met our tour manager in Cairo by chance at one of our gigs around the time that Israeli Spy video went viral. Fun times. He liked us. He booked us. He was pretty much our first fan. He wrote an article on our scene and collective and it got mad hits so he saw the opportunity and crowd abroad and invited us all to tour. They’re excited. We’re excited. Our trill fam is doing a takeover.

You happen to have built quite a controversial rep when it comes to your stage presence, is there anyone you look up to in the industry, or get inspiration from?

When I was a kid of course. Then working as a stylist in London I had too many behind the scenes encounters, some of which were with people I grew up idolizing, so I kind of saw the truth and illusion  in the industry early on and I’m grateful for that reality check. It tore that wall down, everything became possible after that. My stage “persona” is pretty much what I do in my bedroom. Maybe a little more exaggerated.

You have left the corporate world (or maybe never even took part in it) for the world of the arts, you’ve been an actress, a photographer, a dj, and now a singer. Which of the bunch do you actually still do?

I haven’t left the corporate world, I just decided to be my own boss. I own the fashion studio, I’m creative director and co-founder at BLOW! Creative agency and I’m developing a new management agency for niche artists, mostly in the field of fashion  (designers, stylists, visual artists…) to take international since I’ve got a solid industry network/contacts abroad. That’s all business to me. Music and Film are my passion projects.

Who is Bosaina the II, describe yourself in 3 words (we know it’s probably the hardest questions to answer)

    24.Hour.Machine …I.don’t.sleep
For those who don’t know you, give us a little insight on who you are, where you went to school, and how you got here?

I went to BISC and CAC. Did my time at Marangoni London then worked the industry there. Moved back to Cairo. Took a crash course in depression and eventually just grew up and found my place doing what I love with people I love. C’est tout.

What do you think of Egypt’s local music scene, honestly?

Disco Me. Fake is Vogue. Bang & Blow. My first EP with the Wetrobots was basically social commentary on the local scene. So many talented artists. Not enough venues.  No alternative scene. Same same crowd.  Bless them. That’s probably why we the collective exists. The birth of a scene came with us collaborating, playing for each others friends and girlfriends. I like the intimacy and truth in that.

A lot of people may have the impression that because your blonde, female and in the arts, that you may be a bimbo, what do you have to say to those people!?

I will be whatever they want me to be. And I also wish them good health and happiness. One love for all.

Your mother has left quite an impression when it comes to the field, haas she had any influence on you when it comes to her choices in the field?

She’s a lioness. Apples and trees.

Lastly being such a free spirit, do you believe in monogamy? How do relationships play out in your busy schedule?

My music and work are full-time commitments. It’s hard to find a balance between both already , and I’ve never been happier or more fulfilled in general, so I don’t really want a relationship right now. Maybe in my thirties. Or if A$AP Rocky falls into my lap. Even then, I’d probably just take him for a spin.

How did you and your band meet? What genre do you guys exactly fall under? Or do you prefer not to define yourselves?

The Wetrobots are a brilliant electronic DJ duo and I’ve been part of the act for the past three years as <3 Bosaina. We’ve been called a bunch of things. Maybe Electroclash is the most fitting. We’ve currently all moved on to other projects but the collaboration is ongoing and were also still touring together.

They’re my best friends. 2013 is my new project with Zuli (of Vent & Wonderful Morning). It’s called Quit Together. We’re influenced by everything we’ve both eve loved musically so no genre there either. We have a kick ass schedule this year but I’m not obligated to announce the dates and festivals just yet.

Some call her a workaholic, others call her driven, she calls herself a hustler. Some find her outgoing, others standoffish, she's just a confused intro/extrovert. Spanning over 10 years in the event and marketing industry, Sherry began her career in Egypt's burgeoning Sports Marketing industry, to quickly be recruited by the Middle East's largest Film Studio Rotana Studios to spearhead and manage their Marketing Department, before starting her own company Nineteen84 Luxury & Entertainment Management. Along the way she built some of Egypt's most successful websites, leading up until Scoop Empire, a compilation of her and her 2 partners (best friends) brain child!
