As we bid adieu to 2014, we look back at this jam-packed year of events. From missing airlines to Sisi cupcakes, we must say, this year has kept us on our toes.

The XXII Winter Olympics that took place in sketchy Sochi, Russia. Remember when some of the players had to kick their way out of the bathroom?
In what appeared to be an episode from lost, Malaysian Airline 370 disappeared from the radar on it’s way to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. Soon after, another MA flight was shot down. Tough year for Malaysian Airlines, that’s for sure.
96.7% of Crimea voted in favor of leaving Ukraine to be annexed by Russia.
Venezuela drank the Arab spring Kool-Aid and protested President Nicolas Maduro.
Ebola came back with a vengeance, leading to a worldwide panic epidemic.
Terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped 270 teenage girls from a boarding school in Nigeria, leading to the worldwide campaign #bringbackourgirls. More like Boko is Haram, am I right?…
Amidst a cult-like wave of Sisi pillows, hearts and baked goods, Former General Abdel Fattah El Sisi was officially elected as Egypt’s president, winning the hearts of mothers all over Egypt.
ISIS ruined everyone’s year, and the Muslim name. When Al Qaeda says they have nothing to do with you – you know you’re insane.
The War on Gaza that broke our hearts and lit social media on fire.
Ze Germans won the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil.
Hong Kong also drank the Arab Spring Kool-Aid and began protesting for democracy.
Olympian Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years after being convicted in the trial of his girlfriend’s murder.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly decreed North Korean men to get his same exact haircut. Which is phenomenal, by the way.
US President Barack Obama announced plans to lift the 54-year-old American trade embargo against Cuba.
We also lost a lot of amazing celebrities and artists this year, including Oscar de la Renta, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Maya Angelou, Shirley Temple, Sabah, Khaled Saleh, Joan Rivers, James Garner (the old man from the Notebook), Casey Kasem, Saeed Saleh, and we mustn’t forget – Oh Captain, My Captain – Robin Williams. May they all rest in peace.
