UAE-based Palestinian Ahmad Daabas had the experience of a lifetime this weekend as he walked the catwalk for Dolce & Gabbana’s autumn-winter collection at Milan Fashion Week menswear.
“Social media stardom is a modern-day fairy-tale,” wrote Business of Fashion’s Tim Blanks about the new collection. “In recognition of this uniquely 21st century alchemy, Dolce & Gabbana called their new collection The New Princes, and peopled their catwalk with a digital elite of tween idols and teen scions of privilege.”
The catwalk was something of a who’s-who among men’s fashion influencers: celebrities, children of celebrities, bloggers, social media stars, etc.
Daabas was one of the 49 mellinneials – all real people, not models – chosen to participate in the collection’s debut at Milan Fashion Week, Gulf News reported Sunday.
Each millennial selected and styled “their own look so as to express themselves,” Daabas told Gulf News tabloid!. Daabas is the founder of men’s fashion website AMD Mode, launched in 2012, and has 35k followers on Instagram.
“Being backstage was a completely different experience — starting with the fitting with the designers and selecting the looks to being in the actual backstage with everyone who’s part of the project,” Daabas told Gulf News. “I was expecting the rehearsal to be something really hard and scary. But, on the contrary, it was very smooth and fun. No tension, no issues and it was very easy to do. The second the show started it was a bit scary, as you know for a fact that all eyes are on you. But when you’re on the runway all what you see is the light hitting your face and you can’t see anything else. So, you just enjoy the moment. Finally, it was an amazing experience as well, as we all walked in one group enjoying the experience and celebrating it.”
