Dubai is a city full of wonderful things; from breathtaking skyscrapers, to incredibly large malls, to trendy eating spots, to clean and pollution free streets, it is no surprise that Dubai has come to reign supreme as a hustling, bustling, and incredibly diverse metropolitan city.
One other thing that truly seems to set Dubai apart from most cities, is its very responsive and active municipal government. Indeed, Dubai’s municipal government is always looking for ways to maintain the city’s status as an attractive tourist center for Dubai’s temporary visitors, whilst simultaneously looking for ways that ensure that the city’s more permanent residents enjoy a comfortable and safe lifestyle.
Consider, for example, the fact that Dubai Municipality has for a long time now opened its doors to citizen’s complaints, and has attempted to respond to shared/popular complains. Since January 2017 alone, the municipality’s toll-free number received over 400,00 calls. This averages to approximately 2,200 queries and complaints a day.
According to Gulf News, Director of Customer and Partners Relations Department at Dubai Municipality, Khater Al Nuaimi, has stated that “responding to residents follows the principles of the municipality, when it comes to opening an effective and direct line of communication between residents and authorities.”
Based on data compiled from this phone line, Dubai’s municipality released a mid-year report, containing two lists. The first list contained data on the top three complaints made by the city’s residents: stray cats, sewage network obstruction, and general waste removal, in respective order. The second list contained data on the top three topics of concern to the city’ residents: housing fees, occupational health cards, and renting chalets, in respective order.
