
Cairo’s governor, Atef Abdel-Hamid, has just announced the increase of tariffs for the city’s white taxis by 25%. Instead of having a taxi meter starting from EGP 3, it’ll start from EGP 4.
The price per kilometer has also increased from EGP 1.40 to EGP 1.75. An hour of waiting will now cost EGP 14. Most white taxis have already begun operating under the new rates on Monday. “All prices are increasing like crazy and our fares have remained the same. That was unfair,” a taxi driver in downtown Cairo told Ahram Online.
