Regardless of how you feel about Mohamed Morsi… take a walk with me…
This man was democratically elected. He was elected by the majority… not of the population but of those who voted. He was elected because of the promises he made and the fact that he had nothing to do with the past regime or his political party. He was now the president of the whole country.
For me, as a mom, I was hopeful. I knew that things were going to change, and I wasn’t going to like all those things, but change was a good thing. And so I anticipated and waited. And waited.
They said he would put veils on my girls. I said so? Would he build them schools to educate them? Would he build them hospitals? Would he build us proper sidewalks and parks? Fine, bring on the burqa.
They said he would close the bars and clubs. Fine. Would he open other places and enlighten people about religion? Then fine.
They said he would instill a nation wide curfew to have people home at an earlier hour. Fine. Then he’d definitely do everything to stop the blackouts since we were stuck at home. Right?
They said he’d turn everything into religion. Fabulous. Islam is a beautiful merciful religion filled with all the things our lives lack today.
Unfortunately for him, but mostly for us, he didn’t do any of those things for me or my daughters. And now I want him and the party he served as far away from me and family. I never want to hear of how he was robbed of his presidency. Because my daughters’ president robbed their country of all the good that was left in it.
I don’t care what the news channels say. I don’t care what foreign commentators say. I care about what I see on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter what people say on Facebook. What matters is that we no longer feel safe in our own country. What matters is the look of shock on my babies’ faces when they see that we have electricity during bedtime. What matters to me is that we find water when we need it.
Goodbye and good riddance. Forever I pray.
