For the Record: The Best and Worst Songs of 2015

This year was pretty great for pop music, but that didn’t stop a few duds from popping up:

    10. Silentó: “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”

Silentó, props for getting the whole world to do your dance. Now please get off the radio; you’re annoying.

    9. Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears: “Pretty Girls”

This song makes my inner feminist angry. The best thing about it is that it failed miserably, on the radio and on the charts.

    8. Meghan Trainor: “Dear Future Husband”

I’m pretty sure Meghan Trainor is a cool person and I want to hang out with her, but she’s had so many terrible singles this year that I had trouble deciding which one I hated the most. But we’re going with “Dear Future Husband”, because I feel like womankind has truly suffered here.

    7. Jidenna ft. Roman GianArthur: “Classic Man”

To be fair, I’m not sure if this is actually bad. I do know that when it gets stuck in your head, it’s there for hours, if not days.

    6. Taylor Swift: “Wildest Dreams”

This starts off Disney princess sweet, but with each listen just became Taylor Swift whining.

    5. Eva Simons ft Konshens: “Policeman”

It’s nothing short of a miracle that this track has lasted so long.

    4. Jessie J: “Flashlight”

This was too cheesy even in Pitch Perfect 2. It has absolutely no business being an actual single as well.

    3. Rihanna: “Bitch Better Have My Money”

I tried to like this song. I really did. And I can appreciate that RiRi is all badass or whatever. Just please be badass and make better songs.

    2. Maroon 5: “Sugar”

This is one of those songs that you probably only like because it’s been played a billion times. But one fact remains: This is a bad song.

    1. Madonna: “Bitch I’m Madonna”

No. Just no. Stop ruining your own legacy.

And to clean out your ears, here are this year’s winners:

    10. Adam Lambert: “Ghost Town”

Despite his many accomplishments, Adam Lambert just isn’t on the radio enough. But “Ghost Town” topped global charts and got us all to whistle along for months.

    9. Adele: “Hello”

    This seems a little obvious.

    8. Zedd: “Beautiful Now”

There are feel-good songs, and then there are songs that make you want to go out and dance and paint and defeat your enemies and hug everyone.

    7. Florence + The Machine: “Ship To Wreck”

This whole album is a beautiful emotional rollercoaster and this one is especially fun to sing along to.

    6. Years & Years: “King”

Years & Years have had some pretty great singles this year and gotten a lot of attention, but this remains my favorite. It’s just damn good pop.

    5. Robin Schulz: “Sugar”

Baby Bash’s “Suga Suga” was good, but this might be better.

    4. Skrillex and Diplo ft Justin Bieber: “Where Are Ü Now”

You either loved it or hated it, but this track singlehandedly proved to skeptics worldwide that EDM is here to stay.

    3. Drake: “Hotline Bling”

You have to admit, this is undeniably catchy. And that video is everything.

    2. Major Lazer and DJ Snake ft MØ: “Lean On”

“Lean On” is the ultimate party starter, guaranteed to get everyone on a dance floor and into a synchronized dance, no less.

    1. The Weeknd: “Can’t Feel My Face”

    Was there every any doubt?
