When I was a kid, I was ALWAYS ready to pray. My mum would ask me if I was metwadeya, and the answer always seemed to be yes, even when I’d JUST come out of the bathroom.
As I grew up, that evolved into little habits I do unintentionally beneya safya. But if my mum hears about it, she’d still want to scream her head off.
Yesterday, as I was praying, I remembered I had chewing gum in my mouth and just held it still until I finished. I mean, if I’m not chewing it, it’s like it’s not there, right?
That made me think of all the times we bend the rules in our favour, especially when it comes to prayers. After all, we’re not always saints… We’re definitely human.
1. Not “chew” the chewing gum, but still have it in your mouth
It’s like holding your breath, isn’t it?
2. Play dumb and pray with your nail polish on
They’re just nails, sa7?
3. Take glimpses every three seconds of the movie playing on your TV screen
Don’t you dare change the channel!
4. Speed up your prayers when the phone rings
Otherwise, I’ll just spend the next minute and a half thinking who it could possibly be!
5. Look at your watch to see how long the imam has been in this rak3a when your feet start to hurt
Especially during tarawee7!
6. Perform air wodo2 over your hair because you’ve just straightened it and don’t want to ruin it
A little drop of water touched it. That works, right?
7. Rinse your arms just once in the winter instead of three times, because it’s too freaking cold.

8. Say “Allaho Akbar” when your sister tries to use your praying time as a chance to steal something from your wardrobe
Take one more step and you’re dead meat!
9. When someone says a joke while you’re praying and you can’t help but laugh
Just don’t make me laugh, please!
10. When you see a cockroach and scream
That is a LEGIT reason to get out of prayers!
11. When you’re the imam and make a mistake and everyone starts laughing
