It’s Rami Malek’s birthday today, and what better way to celebrate than by looking back at the roles that made him one of the most intriguing actors in Hollywood?

From cult TV fame to Oscar glory, and from ancient pharaohs to modern-day spies, Malek’s choices have never followed a formula. Each role brings something unexpected—and that’s exactly why audiences keep watching. Let’s take a journey through some of his most memorable roles on screen!

    1. Mr. Robot (2015–2019): Elliot Alderson

Before Rami Malek became a household name, he was Elliot Alderson—a reclusive hacker and cybersecurity engineer with anxiety, trust issues, and a mind-bending relationship with reality.

Mr. Robot didn’t just launch Malek’s career into the spotlight; it gave him a chance to dive into a character with real depth and emotional weight. His intense performance earned him a Primetime Emmy, but more importantly, it showed the world what he was capable of when given the space to lead.

    2. Night at the Museum (2006, 2009, 2014): Ahkmenrah

Long before he headlined major films, Malek made his mark in the Night at the Museum trilogy. As Ahkmenrah, the charming teenage pharaoh, he brought warmth and charm to a family-friendly adventure.

It wasn’t a leading role, but it introduced him to wide audiences and gave a glimpse of the charisma he’d later bring to much bigger parts.

    3. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2 (2012): Benjamin

Yes, Rami Malek was in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2. Even though his role as Benjamin, a vampire with elemental powers, was brief, fans of the franchise definitely took notice.

It was a small moment, but one that added to his early collection of genre-spanning appearances—and helped him build a loyal following along the way.

    4. Bohemian Rhapsody (2018): Freddie Mercury

If Mr. Robot proved his range, Bohemian Rhapsody confirmed his star power. Taking on the role of Freddie Mercury was no small feat. Malek didn’t just mimic the iconic frontman—he embodied him.

From the way he moved on stage to the quieter, more vulnerable moments behind the scenes, his performance struck a chord with both fans and critics. The Academy took notice, awarding him the Oscar for Best Actor. It was the kind of moment that redefined his career.

    5. The Little Things (2021): James “Jimmy” Baxter

In The Little Things, Malek takes on the role of Detective Jimmy Baxter, a sharp, ambitious cop who finds himself tangled in a chilling murder investigation alongside a weary former detective, played by Denzel Washington.

The film leans heavily into psychological tension, and Malek holds his ground in a cast packed with strong performances.

As Baxter’s certainty begins to crumble while he hunts for a serial killer, Malek draws viewers into the mental and emotional toll that comes with chasing justice in a morally gray world. It’s a slow-burn role that adds another shade to his evolving filmography.

    6. No Time to Die (2021): Lyutsifer Safin

After playing one of music’s most beloved figures, Malek made a sharp turn as Lyutsifer Safin in No Time to Die. Cold, calculating, and unnervingly calm, his take on a Bond villain added psychological depth to the classic formula.

Acting opposite Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007, Malek brought a quiet intensity that left a lasting impression. It was another example of how he leans into complex characters rather than flashy ones.

    7. The Amateur (2025): Charles “Charlie” Heller

In his most recent project, Malek stars in The Amateur, a gritty espionage thriller where he plays a CIA cryptographer forced into action after his wife is killed. It’s a return to the high-stakes, cerebral storytelling that suits him so well.

While very different from Elliot Alderson, Charlie Heller offers the same intensity and internal conflict that Malek brings to his best roles.

Celebrating the Many Roles of Rami Malek

Looking at Rami Malek’s journey, each role adds a new layer to his filmography and reveals a different side of his talent. Whether he’s making us rethink what a hacker looks like or channeling rock royalty, he keeps us guessing—and that’s exactly why his career continues to shine! Which one of his projects was your favorite?
