On the night before Ramadan, the night sky will put on a unique show—a rare planetary alignment! From our view on Earth, several planets will seem to line up, creating a mesmerizing celestial display.

This happens due to the way their orbits align in relation to us. As people get ready for a month of fasting and reflection, this cosmic event feels like a fitting reminder of how deeply faith and the universe are connected.

On the night before Ramadan, a rare celestial event will unfold as the waxing crescent moon appears in the sky, marking the first night of the holy month.

But this year, the crescent moon won’t be alone—it will be accompanied by a planetary alignment featuring all seven of the other planets in the solar system: Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mars.

Just after sunset, the “planet parade” will appear in a striking formation along a shared plane, creating a breathtaking display visible to the naked eye.

While some of these planets are already visible in the sky, they will be at their most prominent on Friday after sunset, offering the clearest and most striking view.

On top of that, some sources suggest this will be the last planetary alignment of its kind until 2040, making it an even more extraordinary sight.

Celestial events like this have captivated civilizations for centuries, and astronomy has long played a crucial role in Islamic timekeeping and spirituality.

The alignment’s occurrence on the very first night of Ramadan makes the moment even more meaningful, serving as a cosmic reminder of the universe’s vastness as Muslims around the world prepare for a month of reflection and devotion!

Best Locations to Witness the Planetary Alignment in the Middle East

For those eager to see this rare event with their own eyes, the Middle East offers some of the best locations for stargazing. Here are some of the top spots to experience the planetary alignment in all its glory:

    1. Azraq Wetland Reserve—Jordan

Situated in Jordan’s eastern desert, the Azraq Wetland Reserve is a tranquil refuge for wildlife and a prime location for stargazing.

With minimal light pollution, the reflective wetlands create a stunning backdrop for celestial events. Plus, the planetary alignment over the water’s surface enhances the spectacle, offering an unforgettable experience for visitors!

    2. The White Desert—Egypt

Known for its surreal chalk rock formations, the White Desert Park is an extraordinary setting for celestial events. As the planets align, their glow contrasts beautifully against the white limestone formations, creating an otherworldly scene. Besides that, the complete silence of the desert adds to the magic of the moment.

    3. Jebel Shams—Oman

As the highest peak in Oman, Jebel Shams offers an unmatched vantage point for stargazing. With its remote location and high elevation, the mountain provides clear, unpolluted skies that make celestial events even more striking.

On another note, the rugged cliffs and deep canyons add to the dramatic scenery, creating a breathtaking setting for observing the planetary alignment.

As the highest peak in the UAE, Jebel Jais provides a stunning vantage point above city lights. The high altitude and clear skies make it a prime location for stargazing. With minimal atmospheric interference, observers can enjoy an uninterrupted view of the planets aligning against a vast, dark sky.

    5. Moon Valley—Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Located just outside Jeddah, Moon Valley is a rugged desert landscape known for its dark skies and minimal light pollution. Named for its unique rock formations and vast open spaces, it provides an excellent setting for stargazing.

The planetary alignment will be exceptionally breathtaking there, with the rocky terrain adding an incredible backdrop to the celestial display.

A Moment of Reflection Under the Stars

Watching the planets align on the last night before Ramadan is more than just a visual spectacle—it’s an opportunity for reflection. As the holy month begins, this rare event serves as a reminder of the beauty and vastness of the universe.

Whether observing from a desert, mountain, or city park, the alignment offers a shared moment of wonder, setting the perfect tone for Ramadan!
