    It’s piqued summer season meaning that temperatures are going to be at an all-time high. As a fun way to cool off, we’ve put together all of Cairo’s top ice cream shops for you to try out this season.

    Joya Gelato

    Branches: Sheikh Zayed

    Inspired by spreading joy hence the name “Joya Gelato”, this ice cream shop creates ice cream for the purpose of making people happy. They even have an ice cream flavor called “make me happy.” Beyond that, they are known to use natural ingredients and have a wide range of exciting flavors including Gooey Brownies, Cereal Killer, Candy Shop and Monkey Business.

    Gelato Mio

    Branches: Zamalek, Heliopolis, Sheik Zayed and Nasr City

    Keeping things simple, Gelato Mio takes it back to the basics with its classic ice cream flavors including watermelon. They also like to keep it playful by churning out cool new flavors like baklava with rose water ice cream. Bringing something different to the ice cream game, they are also known for their very own macrons with ice cream filling.

    Snö Gelato

    Branches: Maadi, New Cairo

    Bringing the flavors of Sweden all the way to Cairo, Snö Gelato is an ice cream shop inspired by Scandinavian flavors. Their ice cream gets freshly made every day and served in their freshly baked Swedish-style waffle cones.

    Mōko

    Branches: Sheikh Zayed

    Starting off as a sweet shop selling chocolates and pastries in Sheikh Zayed, it evolved beyond that and ventured into the world of ice cream creation. Known for both their rich and flavored popsicles as well as their classic gelato, customers can come and try the various selection that also includes a wide range of syrups.

    Stavolta Gelato

    Branches: Maadi, 6 October & Zamalek

    For over a decade, Stavolta managed to carve out a name for itself as one of the city’s go-to ice cream spots. Known as creative innovators, every year, they come up with exciting new local flavors whether it’s haranksh (gooseberry) ice cream or Basbousa Chai.

    Dara’s Ice Cream

    Branches: 6 October, Zamalek, New Cairo, Maadi & Madinaty

    Since the day it opened, lines formed outside its doors as this particular ice cream joint knew how to attract a crowd. Some flock to it to snap Insta-worthy pics next to its neon ice cream cone sign and signature chalkboard menu. While others devour their signature ice cream flavors of salted caramel crunch.

    Mandarine Koueider

    Branches: All over Cairo

    Koueider is a household name all across Egypt as it refers to the legendary Zamalek sweet shop owned by the Syrian family that founded Koueider 90 years ago in Damascus. Today, people flock to the shop to munch on their desserts and enjoy their ice cream especially their classic pistachio flavor as well as their blackberry yogurt flavor.

    Cold Stone

    Branches: All Over Cairo

    Bringing a fun concept to the mix is Cold Stone Creamery, the international ice cream brand that specializes in mixing ice cream with exciting toppings to create whimsical flavors. You can also go for their signature creations including the Birthday Cake Remix as well as their Cheesecake Fantasy made with cheesecake ice cream with graham cracker pie crust, blueberries and strawberries.

    Beyond enjoying the delicious gelato at each ice cream shop, many of them also offer ice cream cakes that make for a great dessert for a big family gathering or even an upcoming birthday party. No matter which store you hit up, keep an eye out for those additional kinds of ice cream products.
