On Sunday, Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly said that Egypt is interested in road development and construction projects, especially those serving new cities. Madbouly stated that the new road projects bring employment opportunities, investments, and more population to the new cities.

Moreover, Egypt works on road developments and construction in order to implement its vision which is achieving sustainable development.

In addition, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Assem El Gazzar, said that the development of the new cities roads costs the Ministry of EGP 33 billion, with a total length of about 1,350 km.

He added that the new roads project in the new cities included the following: The 9 km long Gamal Abdel Nasser Axis and its intersections, the Northern 90th and the Southern 90th Axes with length 20 km, and old Kattameya-Ain Sokhna Road starting from the 11 km long ring road.

Furthermore, on the 6th of October City, a number of main axes were developed, including the central axis with a length of 6 km. Actually, Egypt’s roads have witnessed an extraordinary boom during the past five years.

In the upcoming list, we will provide you with some new roads and where they lead:

    1- El Galala Road

The road starts from the Wadi Hagoul area and is linked to the new Beni Suef / Zaafarana road with a length of 160 km and connects between Beni Suef and Zaafarana. The length of the main Galala Plateau Road is about 82 kilometers.

    2- 30 June Axis Road

It is a 95 km long freeway with a width of 80 m road. 30 June axis serves projects to develop the Suez Canal axis, accelerates development rates on both sides of the Canal, and links the ports of East and West Port Said, Damietta, Alexandria, and Arish with the Gulf of Suez, while also linking between Sinai and the Delta.

3- The Development of the Ring Road

The road is being expanded to include seven lanes in each direction, along with introducing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. In addition, the BRT transit system on the Ring Road would be the longest in the world, with operating smart buses traveling to a distance of 106 km.

4- The development of Sharm El-Sheikh Road

The new road to Sharm el-Sheikh shortens the duration from Cairo to Sharm El-Sheikh by four hours, facilitating transportation and tourism incoming to the South Sinai governorate. It starts from the martyr Ahmed Hamdy Tunnel passing through the Gulf of Suez cities and the capital city of Tur Sinai at a length of 342 km, which does not take more than four hours from Cairo to Sharm el-Sheikh.

    5-Safaga-Qusair-Marsa Alam Road

The duplication of the Red Sea Coast Road, Safaga-Qusair-Marsa Alam, with a length of 200 km and a cost of EGP 1.7 billion. The project is part of a plan to duplicate the Red Sea Coast Road under which 35 km have been completed south of Safaga and a new two-lane path was constructed with a total width of 9.2 m.

    6-The development of Cairo-Suez Road

The new axis connects East Cairo communities and districts with New Cairo City, relieving traffic congestion on the Cairo-Suez Road and reducing commute times. In addition, through the new mass transit terminal, this new axis will connect the First Settlement and Cairo International Airport.

In 2020, Egypt’s road quality ranked second highest in Africa and number 28, globally. Rising 90 ranks over the previous years when it ranked to number 118. The government is still working very hard on the country’s roads development and it is showing a very huge success throughout the past few years.
