Bloomberg reports on Egyptian plans to deliver natural gas to Lebanon. The whole process will be completed within 3 months, or by the end of the year. The gas line will run through Jordan and Syria to reach Lebanon, in the hope to resolve the country’s energy crisis.
Energy ministers from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon all held a meeting to discuss their energy needs. In the meeting, the decision was made that Jordan would also receive Egyptian gas shipments. Those shipments will supply the Deir Ammar power plant in the north of Lebanon.

In addition, a plan was also set for providing Lebanon with power from Jordan. These decisions were necessary as they attempt to resolve the severe energy crisis that is currently leaving Lebanon in the dark. The only challenge facing this collective effort is the issue of infrastructure. The gas pipes connecting the countries need serious upgrades and refurbishments. The pre-existing pipes need serious attention in order to carry out these plans.
More talks will follow suit regarding sustainable and efficient solutions to permanently solve Lebanon’s energy crisis. The hope is that by the end of the year, the Lebanese people would at least have some sort of stable power supply for their daily needs, solving life-threatening and persistent power cuts.
