There are more than 40,000 records in the Guinness World Record‘s database, and more yet to come. The Middle East has many records under its belt, and just this March, the UAE has earned a new Guinness World Record. It now holds the record for the largest sports medal in the world, weighing over 68.5 kilograms, according to Dubai Eye. United Arab Emirates
United Arab Emirates holds 425 Guinness World Records, making it the biggest record-breaking country in the MENA region, according to Khaleej Times. UAE holds the record for the largest puzzle completed underwater, which had an area 168 m² and was achieved in December, 2013.
Another record set by the UAE includes having the largest OLED screen. The size is 709.69 m², making it the largest high-definition video wall with 1,700,352,000 pixels!
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia holds the Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks show. 962,168 fireworks were ignited during the show, and that’s not the only record the country holds. They have also created the largest carpet of flowers/plants in 2017, spanning at 16,134 m² which took place during the Yanbu Flower Festival.
Egypt
Egypt firmly possesses a world record of its own for the highest jump out of water, broken by 21-year old Egyptian Omar Sayed Shaaban, one of the world’s fastest sprinters underwater. His record currently holds a 2.3 m jump!
Lebanon
During the Beirut Cultural Festival in Beirut in 2017, the largest stereoscopic 3D projection was held, earning Beirut this record and measuring at 2446 m².
Bahrain
On November 14th, 2017, World Diabetes Day, the health ministry of Bahrain broke a record, launching the biggest awareness lecture on diabetes. Over 1577 attendees, including school children, senior citizens, and people from the general public attended the lecture according to Guinness World Records.
Morocco
In 1999, Hicham El Guerroug from Morocco, also known as the “King of the Mile,” held the new record for the fastest 2000m run by a male athlete in just 4 minutes and 44.79 seconds. Thus, beating the previous record holder by almost three seconds!
