Now more than any time before, open air spaces are becoming the ideal option for most people. In Saudi Arabia, locals and residents have started heading to Wadi Hanifa, a valley of over 100km, located on the outskirts of Riyadh. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many prefer outdoor spaces than indoor spaces, especially since the weather in the Saudi capital is getting cooler. From its beautiful scenery to the enchanting landscape, Wadi Hanifa has become a major attraction for Saudi residents recently.
Previously, Wadi Hanifa was a dumping spot for waste disposal, but in recent years, the government worked on transforming it into the Kingdom’s largest natural reserve. And they’ve definitely come a very long way! They began with restoring its natural environment, and then moved to creating a public recreational area. It was called Wadi Al-Irdh in the pre-Islamic era, and was renamed as Wadi Hanifa after the tribe that lived there.
