According to local newspapers, last year, the UAE pardoned around 3,005 prisoners ahead of Ramadan and settled their financial burdens to give prisoners a chance for a new life and reunite families during such a blissful month, and this year is no exception. The President of the UAE, Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan has pardoned 1,511 prisoners and settled their financial obligations as Ramadan nears. Meanwhile, Humaid bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, Ajman’s ruler pardoned 124 prisoners for good conduct. As well as Saud bin Rashid Al-Muaalla, the Ruler of Umm Al-Quwain, who released a similar order.
The annual Ramadan pardon is actually part of Sheikh Khalifa’s humanitarian initiatives advocating the values of forgiveness and tolerance. Every year prisoners are given a second chance to live and reintegrate into mainstream society, and an opportunity to start a new chapter of their life among their friends and families. There’s no better time to do so than the holy month of Ramadan!
