China has just opened a vast, multibillion-dollar starfish shaped airport in the country’s capital, Beijing. The Daxing airport, the second in Beijing, is belived to be the largest single-building airport terminal in the world. It was designed by the Iraqi-born British architect “Queen of the Curve” Dame Zaha Hadid.
The 700,000 sq meters airport has four runways, and it’s expected to take up to 72 million passengers by 2025. By 2040 the airport is actually expected to expand to eight runways, accommodating 100 million passengers! In fact, over the past year, officials have been showing off the sleek new airport; hosting tours of the space, which includea customer service robots to deliver flight information, as well as facial recognition-enabled check-in.
I have been following Zaha Hadid’s work for years, and she never failed to take my breath away with her amazing designs.
