Austrian teenagers Samra Kesinovic, 16, and Sabina Selimovic, 15, ran away from their Vienna homes on April 10th. Many believed that they would soon be located and returned safely, but little did they know that the two teenaged girls had actually traveled to Syria to take part in the ‘Holy War’.
The girls’ families eventually discovered their daughters whereabouts through various media outlets and Facebook posts showing the girls with AK-47s and in training camps in Aleppo – posts that the girls themselves made public.
In their latest Facebook posts, the girls stated that they were planning on getting married and becoming ‘holy warriors’. However, Austrian officials have speculated that the young women have already married and are receiving combat training. Samra and Sabina also said in their Facebook posts, that their ultimate goal is death and that they ”will never be found”.
The fathers of both girls have now traveling in search of their daughters despite the fact that neither of the girls have made contact with their families since leaving Austria.
Details on how the teenaged girls were able to travel halfway across the world are still unknown to the public but Interpol believes that they were tricked into traveling and fighting alongside the Islamic Army by Ebu Tejma, a radical imam whose mosque they frequently visited prior to their departure.
