Well…. I for one DID NOT see that coming. I had “ze germans” pegged to win… and .. I sort of, kind of, almost got away with it. For those of you who know nothing about or are not interested in football… stop reading here. For the rest of you… lets breakdown the game:
So.. the first half was rather uneventful with both sides struggling to gain an edge over the other. In fact.. I didn’t start yelling profanities or being outraged until about… the 83rd minute.. when Muller found the back of the net and put Bayern one step closer to that giant Champions League trophy… or so I thought. About 5 minutes later, Mr. Drogba scored the equalizer. UGH. Its not that I dont like Chelsea, its just that.. I … well.. I suppose I just don’t really like Chelsea. This Cote D’Ivorian superhuman has practically carried Chelsea on his shoulders for the last couple of years, no one else on the squad comes close to him. Ashley Cole is too busy being an a-hole, same with Terry, Lampard I suppose is… alright… and lets not even talk about Torres (whispering “uuuuuseeeelessssss”). Whoops, I’ve sidetracked myself…. BACK TO THE GAME!
With the extra time whistle fast approaching, it became evident that the match of the year was going to end in a penalty shootout. Penalty shoot outs are perhaps the cheapest way to win a game, but I suppose after 120 minutes of playing football…no one is physically capable of running. The shoot out began with Bayern scoring their first penalty, courtesy of Lahm. This was followed by Chelsea’s Juan Mata missing his shot. THEN…when my hopes were at their highest…the end of my Champions League dream for Bayern Munich began. Chelsea scored every remaining penalty shot, while Olic and Schweinsteiger missed both their shots, sealing Bayern’s fate…..second place.
That’s the lowdown on the UEFA Champions League Final 2012 from a reasonably objective perspective, because I’m not a Bayern fan nor am I a Chelsea fan, but football is football…….. and football is life.
