7 Israeli Movies About 6th of October War

Happy 6th of October day, everyone. As many of you know, today all local TV channels (and some cable TV) will be showing a lot of war movies. We thought why don’t we add a bit of a challenge to this day and watch the enemy side of the story about that particular event in history. I know it won’t be a cup of tea for some, but while you’re at home, spending your Thursday morning thinking of what you want to do for the evening, these movies will keep your mind working – not for its thought-provoking content, but for where you stand.

    1) Kippur

This is some artsy-fartsy sh*t. The movie starts with a love scene with paints all over both bodies symbolizing something I’m not really sure of.  It takes place in the middle of the conflict, right at 1973, of course told through the eyes and minds of Israeli soldiers. This movie is very surreal, very European style.

    2) The Last Winter

This movie tells the story of two women seeking leads to their missing husbands after the end of the Yom Kippur War (1973). A relationship builds between them when each identified her husband in the same blurred image of a foreign newsreel.

    3) Lost Embrace

This one is more about a family sugar-coated reflections on the October war. In Buenos Aires, the twentysomething Jewish-Argentinean, Ariel, has left the University of Architecture and tries to get his Polish passport and move to Europe. Ariel has never understood why his father left him when he was a baby to fight in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. When his father returns to Buenos Aires, Ariel discovers the reason why.

    4) Yom Hadin (Hebrew for the Day of Judgement)

For those of you who didn’t know, “Yom Kippur” is literally the Day of Atonement. So Yom Hadin is just a synonym to Yom Kippur, which is the Israeli term for our “7arb setta October.” The story-line begins when a hotel manager leaves his wife and daughter to immigrate to the States but returns to Israel to participate in the October war. After he gets injured in a battle, he receives a blood donation from his daughter, who volunteers in the hospital.

    5) Shtikat HaTzofarim (Hebrew for Silence of the Sirens)

    Via IMDb

It’s a movie that portrays the ten days that followed the war, telling the stories of some men who Israelis call heroes.

    6)  Ha-Milhamah L’aher Hamilhamah (Hebrew for the War After the War)

This one is not about 6th of October in particular, rather about what lead to it – the Six Day War. Two years later, doctors try to save the lives of an Arab and an Israeli who ran into a border crash. Needless to say, the official synopsis says Arab terrorist and Israeli soldier – because Arabs can’t be soldiers.. duh.

    7) Three and One

It’s basically about the changes the October war made between generations. Drama, drama, drama!

WE SAID THIS: Watch some of them and tell us what you think.

1973 War 6th of october Egypt Israel October War Patriotism Syria War Yom Kippur
